Von Daniken for the New Millenium.
Review of Gods Of The New Millenium - Alan Alford by
steerpyke
Advantages: More convincing than Von Daniken
Disadvantages: still a bit off the wall
...believe that once they have published their works it becomes carved in stone and unalterable even in the light of new discoveries. If you want to read Alfords later and better academically recieved books about Egypt, its religion and creation myths, its still a good idea to read this his first work.
I must admit that I was never that convinced by Von Daniken and his theories of the involvment of extra-terrestrial factors in our own evolution. Alan Alford manages to provide a more convincing argument. Even if you dont manage to stay with him all the way to the end, he manages to give a lot of food for thought along the way. He may not give you a conclusive and convincing answer but at least he will give you enough information to question what you currently think you know, and thats never a bad thing.
I will finish by saying that i read...

Right or wrong
Review of To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee by
mystical_muppet
Advantages: Good read
Disadvantages: sometimes confusing
...screen adaptations that pleased fans of the book and its author as well. After seeing the film, Lee commented, "I can only say that I am a happy author. They have made my story into a beautiful and moving motion picture. I am very proud and grateful." Set in Lee's hometown, Monroeville, Alabama, To Kill A Mockingbird vividly captures a specific time and place when racial unrest was at its peak in the South. Yet despite its controversial nature (a black man is accused of raping a white woman), the real focus of the story is the relationship between Scout, a tomboyish six-year-old, her older brother, Jem, and their attorney father. Part of the film's huge appeal is seeing the dramatic events unfold through the innocent eyes of childhood.
Producer: Alan J. Pakula
Director: Robert Mulligan

An insight inot the lives of others
Review of Talking Heads - Alan Bennett by
sophie_801
Advantages: the depth of the character, believable and each unique
Disadvantages: None i can think of
...Although the characters are finctional, grounded no doubt on Alan's past experience and chance meetings,They are colourful, bright and full of life. Each of the monologues are unique to the next, Bennett creates a world of his own allowing the reader to see through the eyes of his characters and gain an insight into their, more often than not, tragic lives. The alcoholic Vicar's wife, the lady with the dead husband, financially ruined yet continues, All the characters have tragedies, whether this is intentional on Alan Bennett's part or sheer coincedence, when you read this book, the colouful language, the minute discription, attention to detail.allows this book to touch your heart, allows you to identify with the characters and to become inveloped in the world that Alan Bennett created.
A marvellous piece of literature...
