The initial setup is a doddle. WHen you turn it on for the first time it asks you your country and language and then if you want to tune. Tuning took a couple of muinutes but it picked up all the freeview channels no problem. Then the surprise came. The picture and sound were fantastic for such a reasonably priced budget make TV. I am known as gadget boy by my mates and will not buy low quality items, especially when it is electronic. Panasonic and Toshiba are my firms of choice and that is where I was looking. Could I find a one, could I hell! Getting hold of a big name small tv is a nightmare, so I started at looking at other makes. This is when I stumbled onto this little beauty on the ARGOS website for £97.
Firstly I read all of the customer reviews and nobody had a bad word to say about it. Firstly it is a very good looking tv with a 16" widescreen framed by gloss black and all very nicely put together. When you turn it onto standby a nice blue light appears on the front just underneath the ALBA logo!! Yes I am a badge snob!
Colour and contrast ratios are really good without any fiddling what so ever and the sound is nice and balanced.
It has a full compliment of connections on the back. HDMI, SCART, COMPONENT, LINE OUT, SPDIF/COAX OUT, so really you could connect this to anything. I haven't coz it is in the kitchen, but I am sure upscaled DVD's, Bluray and games consoles will look fantastic on it. Great for the kids with a box room say. It also has side AV connectors.
Anyway, in a nutshell, that is the ALBA LCDW16HDF freeview LCD TV. Small, beautiful, capable and very very surprising. For £97 IT IS A FULL £50 cheaper than its nearest rivals which get terrible reviews!!! Like I said, I usually only buy high end equipment but this has surprised me big time. Just to make sure though I got the extra 2years cover for £20 from ARGOS! ARGOS cover is great, if it knacks up, take it back and they change it. No messing.
Bought this for just shy of £100 from Argos so I wasn't expecting much, but it turns out that this thing is actually rather impressive. Usually cheap TVs _look_ cheap, but not this one -- the case is a nice glossy piano black, the bezel round the screen isn't too big, and it feels solidly built. There's a reasonable range of inputs and outputs and will even provide power for an aerial-mounted signal booster, which is quite a nice touch. It also has ... ...it to the wall, although it's not the slimmest of TVs. The most impressive thing about this, though, is the picture quality -- the contrast ratio is good, the colours are natural and balanced, and standard definition signals (including the built-in Freeview tuner) get treated to a bit of upscaling (for the technical amongst you, it appears to be a derivative of 2xSaI), and while this will never match the quality of true HD signals it does give a ...
