I bought this conditioner alongside the VO5 Silky Smooth Elixir shampoo, as I like to use matching hair products where possible. As I mentioned when I reviewed the shampoo I am not particularly keen on the VO5 brand usually, but the range was on special offer and I was attracted by the pink packaging.
Actually, the conditioner bottle isn't quite as pink as the shampoo bottle - this one is predominantly white, but has a pink lid and pink accents and writing on the label. Although I think it's fairly obvious this is from a lower-priced brand, I do quite like the appearance of the bottle, it looks fun and when the two bottles stand side by side they look quite good. This conditioner is for dull, frizz and heat damaged hair, which is what I have. My hair is thick, and I straighten it regularly, which obviously is quite damaging, as well as colouring it - so you could say it gets quite a bit of abuse!
This product contains a blend of five different oils - Avocado and Jojoba which are nutrient rich, Apricot and Almond which are strengthening, and Grape Seed which is shine enhancing. The bottle promises a luminous shine, however the shampoo also promised this, and as I found out, it did not quite live up to its promises. The conditioner is white in colour and a nice consistency. It's not runny like the Alberto Balsam ones, but it's not so thick that it feels too heavy for everyday use. It has a pleasant, but almost generic scent - slightly floral and quite creamy. There is nothing special or memorable about the fragrance and it could be any run of the mill conditioner.
Using this you just smooth through the hair and then rinse. There is no need to leave this on for a few minutes to work its magic, as some other conditioners advise. I prefer it this way, as it's more convenient on those days when I am in a rush. The conditioner rinses away to leave my long, thick hair tangle free. There is no denying that it leaves my hair feeling soft after use, as well as hydrated, but I felt that the results I got when using this were mediocre - there didn't seem anything particularly special about the product.
Also, like the shampoo, I felt that this did not live up to its claims of luminous shine. My hair again looked dull and was lacking any sort of shine at all, which was a shame, because it felt nice and soft.A 300ml bottle of this conditioner costs £2.12 from ASDA.
Overall, I felt this to be another very average product. It de-tangled my hair, left it feeling soft, and was reasonably priced, but simply didn't deliver the 'luminous shine' which it promised. An OK shampoo, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again.*originally posted on Dooyoo
