Advantages: 12x Optical zoom, Leica lens Disadvantages: bulky, not that good at ISO more than 100, no RAW
...I have been using this camera since early 2005. It is a very good camera. One major advantage of this camera is its 12x optical zoom at f2.8. You won't get that kind of lens with the price of FZ20.
Even though it has OIS, I still recommend the use of tripod for high zoom situation. IMHO the camera gives very good photo quality at ISO 50-ISO100. This is the setting that produce very low noise on your photo if you want to produce large print. The camera also has up to ISO 400 if you want to use.But at ISO 200 and above the photo shows image noise.
Now if you zoom at 12x the OIS is not really that good if you use ISO50 and there are not much light. Try this without tripod and take a picture of a bird at 12x zoom. Take at different ISO, and you will see as the ISO goes up the effect of OIS is better but then with high ISO the noise...

Having owned a pair of Leitz 10 x 40 BA/N Binoculars and sold them I had always wanted to own a pair of the newer style Trinovids.
The catalogue issued by Leica waxed lyrical about the numerous improvements which had been made over the previous Leitz... more
