Advantages: Awesome build quality, easy to handhold, very high overall sharpness of image, neutral colour balance of image Disadvantages: Close focus disappointing, some colour fringing in extreme contrast situations
...Having owned a pair of Leitz 10 x40 BA/N Binoculars and sold them I had always wanted to own a pair of the newer style Trinovids.
The catalogue issued by Leica waxed lyrical about the numerous improvements which had been made over the previous Leitz models.
Obviously the first thing noticed was the improved shape and ergonomics, easy to handhold and focus. Now I'm comparing two different types of binocular as I'd previous owned a pair of 10x40 as opposed to the 8x50's. The main reason for a change was the ability to hold the 8x more steady than the 10x-but that is really the only comparison I have.
Now the business side of things-the optical performance. Leica had clamed big things for it's new range of Binoculars involving new glasses and lens coating and also something called
Phase-Correction coating of the prisms.
Did it improve...

...My return to SLR photography after two "compact" digital cameras. THe D40x is amazingly light compared with my previous 35mm SLRs. The basic auto prgrammes are pretty well foolproof, you really have to be doing something stupid not to get decent results with this camera.
What made me go for it .... 10.8 mp , takes SD cards, cheaper than the D80.
If you go for the manual settings then you have to know what you are doing. The instruction manual is precise and fairly comprehensive. It does take a bit of reading and experimentation with the various settings. I have read quite a few reviews in the photography press and in general the D40x has been well received.
I bought the Nikon "kit" which comprised the body, an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens all for less than £500 which I reckon was a good deal. There are still plently retailers...

Advantages: If it can still be located it's very cheap and reasonable value for money Disadvantages: Poor low light performance
...These cameras were available at "clearence" prices - in the UK around £20 - £25. At this price I think they were good value for money however do not expect an Olympus. One major drawback appears to be lack of drivers for Windows XP (Can anyone advise?)
The camera is compact and light, fits easily in your pocket. The picture quality is fair, and I have used it quite a bit for quick "record" shots. It also seems to work well as a webcam. Battery life is poor and it appears to loose stored images so download it as soon as you can. Another drawback is that it needs a good light level - as a web cam I am using it with a 18 watt flo. tube providing lighting but anything much less and it simply stops.
Technical Stuff:
Image resolution VGA 640 x 480 or 320 x 240
Memory: Internal only 8Mb = 26 VGA Images
Power: 4 x AAA cells...

Well I'm going to tell you about my experience with the KDL-40 that I bought last month:
Firstly - wow 40 inches! Its really big obviously, so you can do basically any screen-orientated thing without having to squint to see what's going on.
Well I've more
