Advantages: Unique - cute phone you can't throw away Disadvantages: Too old now. Can't compete with Nokia
...The reception I found wasn't brilliant - and
Although this phone isn't exactly top notch now, I liked it, and prevailed with it even after the Motorola. I now have a Nokia 3310 (doesn't everyone?!) and the Alcatel is now on my shelf in my room. ... more
I received this phone at Christmas 2000. My parents bought it for me, and I can't say that I was very happy. I looked at the phone and I put on a fake smile and said Thanks. However, this phone grew on me, and even after I bought myself a Motorola V2288 six months later, I still used this one, and I gave my Motorola to my mother the Christmas after. Payback!!
As far as I am aware, this phone is now unavailable in the shops. This phone may not look stylish, but it is very cute, and strangely unique. In this opinion I won't go on about the battery life and reception etc, that will be covered in the other bits below, but look at the boxlists to see what I thought of it.
If you buy this phone, you will be on the Virgin network as it is the only network the Max DB uses. This may sound limited, but Virgin is a very huge company, and in my opinion the best network around, and I believe if you check out the networks on Ciao, I think Virgin comes top.
Those looking for games, do not buy this product. This phone does not have any games. There are two buttons on the left hand side of the phone. These are generally for scrolling purposes, and may be hard to press sometimes. Anyone not having this phone will have a little difficulty handling it.
The phone holds 200 numbers (at least on my phone it does) and this is a lot compared with the others.
When you want to text somebody, you can ONLY use CAPS LETTERS. You have no option to use small caps, so therefore so are stuck with the caps all the time.
In terms of ringtones, ah. You cannot download any onto your phone as far as I am aware, and the ringtones are pretty poor. They all have the same sort of sound (ie that electric instrument) sound. There is one called Cool which does sound quite good.
When you receive texts from people, you cannot decipher who the person is, until you reach the end of the message, and then you can scroll again to find out who the person was. At least they tell you who its from, when some phones only give you the number. There is no predictive messaging on the phone.
You can bar incoming / outgoing calls onto the phone. This is very useful if you want to avoid certain people on the phone. The battery lifetime is excellent in my opinion - I didn't have to recharge it very often. The battery lifetime is shown on the screen with 3 bars.
The phone is very robust - it is chunky and although it may not look the best, it does provide excellent protection to the phone. You cannot change covers either.
The reception I found wasn't brilliant - and
Although this phone isn't exactly top notch now, I liked it, and prevailed with it even after the Motorola. I now have a Nokia 3310 (doesn't everyone?!) and the Alcatel is now on my shelf in my room.
Advantages: Some nice features. Well built and generally an ok phone. Disadvantages: Overtaken in the style dept. by most Nokia's. The lack of new features may frustrate.

Ive been using the One Touch Max DB for over a year now, on the Virgin Mobile network. Its not as feature ... ...due to the amount of time its been in the shops.
Ok, so how do I find it...well first ill point out the strengths. A major reason for me buying this phone was the charge-up time. Like most people, I live my life in the fast lane (well more like the middle lane), but I needed a phone that I could whack on the charger and then an hour later it be fully charged for the next 5 days. This phone allowed that, I didnt have to leave it on over-night to ...

Advantages: Good looks, plenty of good features, exclusive to Virgin so cheap calls Disadvantages: 72-50 including 10-00 of talk time
...job. I plumped for the Alcatel because it has good looks and is very practical. Ot also has good features free with it like the stylish stand/charger and the clip on belt clip that is supplied. The phone is available for 60-00 with a 12-50 Virgin Mobile service pack on top which includes 10-00 worth of calls. Being a Virgin you also have access to the Virgin Extra section including loads of information on it. The phone is definitely a lovely phone ... ...have concerns that Virgin Mobile wont have the quality of network supply but this is untrue. It is based on the 1-2-1 network and has 98% coverage of the UK, I always get a 4 or 5 bar signal out of 5 so this is no problem at all. Virgin also undercut opponents by a significant amount. With Virgin, calls whatever time of the day are 15p a min for the first 5 mins and 5p a min thereafter. Also you get a nice little message letting you know when your ...

...phone that I purchased, the Alcatel Max DB.
This phone is available in either black or white although I plumped for the black one myself as I think it looks better. At the time of purchase the phone was £60-00 with a £12-50 service pack required which included £10-00 worth of calls. All this with Virgin's incredibly cheap tariff of 15p a minute for the first 5 minutes and 5p a minute from there after.
I needed a mobile with cheap calls but also ... ...got all this with my Alcatel and the Virgin network.
Although based on the 1-2-1 network, which isn't the most respected around, I have found great signals and no problems regarding connectivity or signal problems at all.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this combination and hot off the press i can announce the major price cuts which make this phone just £29-99 now with a £10-00 service pack to be brought including £5-00 of free calls. Go out and ...

Advantages: sexy, different, plays music Disadvantages: limited aspects, different, expensive!
The Alcatel max db is in a very different individual range. I decided to buy this phone as noone else had it unlike the nokia 3310 which everyone has stuck to their ears, (no affence if you have one!)Its different, smart and very stylish. The unique sexy shape of this phone matches the individual who owns one, and of course that includes me!! You can have the cover of this phone in white, grey or black and yes I know what you are thinking, how boring ... ...It is limited in some aspects. There are only 16 melodies and it sounds very peculiar and is again completely different to other phones. You could say in that case, why not buy a "normal" phone like every one else, but does that not answer that question! There are two settings on this phone, audio and mode. These incudes AUDIO = ring tone, set up services, numbers and clock. MODE = msg alert (which is two tiny beeps that you can't hear)key beeps ...

Advantages: Good features. Excellent call quality Disadvantages: Volume level is a bit quiet
AlcatelMaxDB
A robust little phone. Impressive call quality. The inbuilt hands-free works well, but the mic does pick up a fair bit of background noise. The NiMH battery perform well. Call quality is excellent. A backlit screen highlights a three-line display, with the tip line reserved for icons showing battery life and signal strength. Numbers can be transferred to up to nine quickdial numbers. There are 15 ring tones, a battery save mode and a currency converter. The clock shows the time and date and the menu allows you to enter appointments with a memo. The voicemail function works well with new voicemails showing up a a tape symbol. All in all, this phone offers similar features, if not more, than other models in its price range. ...
Advantages: FM Radio - sorry the only thing I could think of Disadvantages: Lack of features make this a little downmarket
I have had three mobiles - the AlcatelMaxDB, a Nokia 3310, and this one - this is the worst phone out of the three in my opinion - I have written opinions on those too - check them out.
As usual I'm not going to dabble on about each aspect of the phone - just the major parts.
When you buy a phone, what do you look for? Well, along with nice reception, you need style, a good brand, games to keep you occupied on those long train journeys, a calendar for those business type people, long battery life, predictive texting, a clock, etc etc - well.... this phone doesn't really cover any of those features - apart from the brand name and style.
The look of the phone is nice - and came in two covers - blue and pink - these are rubber covers which surround the phone- it gives the phone a little more protection and grip - but you can ...
