Background
Let's roll back two years, when my eldest child was still in nappies. Being our first, we had no experience in what products to buy, only being able to take note of various biased adverts, unreliable magazine reviews and the occasional recommendation from friends. At the time, we didn't live anywhere near an Aldi store so our main shopping was done in two of the main supermarkets where we had a tendency to buy Pampers, right from birth all the way to junior.
Initially there wasn't a problem, in the birth and smaller sizes the Pampers did the job they were created for and although rather expensive, it seemed like a small price to pay for a quality product. However, this didn't last and when my daughter started to use sizes 4 and 5, the problems started. It wasn't a case of my child wetting any more than any other, but we started to wake on a morning to find her in slightly damp sheets and with cold legs. It seemed that the nappies couldn't hold an overnight "spree" so we switched to the other leading brand, Huggies, with the same result. In the end we had to resort to using pull up pants over the nappies to catch any excess which was a success, but unnecessary in my eyes.
Move forward 12 months and our youngest was born. After recently moving house with an Aldi store in the vicinity and not wanting to have the same problems as before, we decided to have a try with the Aldi "Mamia" brand, the results of which were outstanding. Despite not having to use pull up pants alongside, not once has there been a problem with damp sheets, although they have a feel of being slightly thinner than the leading brands, they are extremely absorbent, fit well and are much cheaper.
Availablity And Range
Available in a range of sizes from birth right through to toddler/junior, "Mamia" nappies are available in all Aldi stores as far as I am aware.
Price
Priced very competitively in comparison to the leading brands, we currently pay £5.49 for 44 Junior nappies (size 5). Place this alongside a leading brand such as Pampers where you can normally expect to pay around £4.99 for only 24 nappies, you can immediately see the cost benefits we have achieved over the past two years or so. The whole range is priced with a similar difference and quantity to the leading competitors so over the lifetime of a child using nappies, the price savings can be huge.
Quality
Of course, the general consensus is that quantity and low price is generally a compromise over quality but not in this case. As explained above, we have had much more success in using the Mamia brand than any of the leading brands, both on absorption and comfort of fit which is also of huge importance. A couple of years ago, a leading brand introduced a "caterpillar fit" system whereby the nappy was made to fit the child more snugly and reduce leakages even further. Almost immediately, Mamia introduced a similar product with no price increase, a sign that they intend to equal the leaders in quality but also not to compromise on the key Aldi values of consumer price.
Would I Recommend Them?
Reading any of the above suggests yes! And it would be correct. Earlier this year, a friend and his partner were expecting their first child and the subject of the best suitable nappy came up to which my obvious reply was Mamia, explaining the benefits and why we had come to use them. Now, that family take a longer shopping trip than necessary in order to purchase this brand, something that I feel drives home the quality of the product. Of course, in the current economic climate, the savings that can be made by using this brand also give heavy benefits that sit alongside the quality, a win win situation in any consumer test I feel.
Advantages: Excellent value for money, very absorbent Disadvantages: Not always available in local store
I started using Aldi nappies when I began doing my grocery basics shop at Aldi about a year and a half ago. I had previously used Pampers predominantly (or whatever else was on promotion) but as my twins grew, these became more and more expensive. I saw the Aldi nappies and thought I would give them a go.
I can honestly say that I have found them as good as, if not better than, the more expensive brands.
They are sold under the brand name "Mamia" ... ...under this brand.
I am currently using the size 4 nappies on one of my two and a half year olds (one of my girls is out of nappies now - hurrah!!) and they are still plenty big. They are also available in sizes 2, 3, and 5.
They have stretchy side panels, resealable tabs and elastication around the legs. They are tremendously absorbent and I cannot recall them leaking either pee or poo.
They are totally fine overnight, no leaks then either.
They ...

...stores before I found the Aldi nappies...and what i can tell you is this..
I discovered nappies basically come in 2 different types-
As a general rule the cheaper brands usually have a 'plastic feel' to them and I found these types to be a bit leaky now and again also the tabs you use to fasten them can only be stuck down once. They are definately not good for night times, they also irritate my little guy because the nappies are plastic they dont ... ...brands.
Now the Aldi brand nappies are different.. they have all the good points that you get from a more expensive brand...they are of a 'material feel' not plastic...they fit well round little legs and don't leak...and you can stick the tabs down as many times as you like because theyr'e that velcro stuff...

....... and the winner is Aldi Mamia disposable nappies!
Firstly they only cost £3.89 for 34 maxi or 30 junior, so they are cheaper even than most other supermarket own brands.
Secondly they perform brilliantly; my son has never ended up with a damp clammy bottom after wearing these, and I have never had a leakage incident even after 6 or 7 hours. (I will admit now that I still use Huggies overnight as they will easily hold 12 hours of wee!)
The ... ...plasticky, with resealable tabs. When full they hold all the liquid in without swelling up to gigantic proportions. They are elasticated at the legs, but not too tightl y, and have a stretchy waistband to ensure a snug fit. There is a balloon pattern on the front to help you put them on the right way round, but they are in no way as spangly and colourful as Pampers; this doesn't matter to me as pretty designs have no effect on their absorbency or ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: bulky, not absorbant, feel horrible.
I was recommended these nappies by 2 local mums who's children are 21/2, 3 and one is 4 yrs old. there in 2 sizes 4 and 5 and the 5 is quite large, bigger than any 5 I have purchased!!! as I use 5+ on my daughter.
Anyway I was given a few to try and arn't I glad I didn't waste my money.

If you are short on cash and really need some nappies buy them but you will need to change the child very oftern and do not use over night as you will have accidents.

...week, untill a friend recommended aldi nappies.
Aldi nappies? There is a stigma in shopping in these scandinavian stores because I don't like to buy brands that I don't recognise, especially to use on my little angels. My friend told me they had been awarded the baby and mother magazine award and there were only 3.69 for 30.
I was very tempted and decieded to give them a try. unfortunetly they only start from size 4 but they do pull up pants, 20 ... ...about but it isn't the packaging that is doing the desired job.
The nappy fitted perfectly and was soft to the feel. The pattern on the nappy is a bit naff but who cares!!!!!! My daughter was able to go about her daily day and was very happy which was the most important thing. The nappy absorbed very well, my daughter's skin was bone dry and didn't leak, unlike most of the well known brands.
The velcro fastenings were very stickable and restuck ...

Advantages: Cheaper then bigger brands. Disadvantages: Release gel too easily.
I love ASDA and use their own name products across the board. Asda is a brand I trust and have very rarely been let down by them. However these nappies were a huge dissapointment to me. I used Asda when my twins were eighteen month old and my first experience was not good. Just over an hour after outting the nappies on both my children were soaking wet and gel hasd been been released all over their precious skin. |They had the reddest bots I had seen since they were born.
These nappies are almost £2 a pack cheaper than brands like Huggies and Pampers but since you have to change your child twice as much they don't offer value for money.
If you are looking for a value brand you can trust, check out my reviews for Boots and Aldi's nappies as in my experience are definity better than Asda's. ...

Advantages: value for money Disadvantages: spikey gel crystals
I have found with 'own' brand disposible nappies,Asda, Morrisons, aldi, a leaking of the gel crystals, around the edge of the nappy,[before use] which seem to be pressed into the cotton. these are leaving sharpe spikes which scratched my baby. i tried asda first, and they were so sharpe. i contacted them to inform them of this and received a voucher but i dont want to waste my money to check if they have improved. the same 'fault' was in the other own brands that i have tried. i have had to smooth over the edging and pick the crystals out before i can put them on my baby. once on the nappy performs well, does not leak, looks comfortable for my baby. they fitted well around the leg but were not stretchy enough.they stayed on well but i didnt like the tapes as they seemed to cut into baby's leg. ...

Advantages: Strong, look good, large capacity, appealing to child! Disadvantages: expensive
Over the years, I've tried lots of nappies on the kids - Pampers baby dry, huggies, aldi, boots own etc etc etc. I have to be honest, what made me buy these was that I got a voucher for extra advantage card points, so I thought "what the heck", I'll give them a go.
Without any other incentive, these nappies are quite expensive - £5.00 for 20 (!) However, I do think they are worth it and provided we have the money that particular week, I'll be trying to get these.
There are a variety of reasons I will be spending the extra.
The first (and main reason) is that in the past, I have asked my son to come and have his "bum done" and he will run off saying "no bum, no bum". As other parents out there will know, trying to change a toddler that doesn't want to be changed is a NIGHTMARE!!! However, if I wave the Huggies in the air ...
