Do you remember when beans were 3p?

Advantages: Well laid out stores, high quality for low prices.
Disadvantages: Electrical goods can be an unknown quantity, not enough checkout staff.

Shopping in Aldi is a much more pleasurable experience than it used to be. When the stores first opened in 1990 I remember them being sawdust-filled, warehouses full of strange continental foodstuffs. However, I also remember them being a major part of the "bean war" on which tins of beans dropped to 3p! Aldi stores have come a long way since then and no longer have the "shame value" attached to them during my childhood. No longer ...
...with them! What Aldi has retained though, is the cheap prices. Fortunately, they have now combined this with quality produce.

Aldi is now our first port of call for our monthly shop so let me take you around the aisles. Arriving at our Ormskirk branch we select a trolley depositing a pound into the slot. Aldi trolleys are huge, juggernaut like contraptions made for cramming as much in as possible. They are deep and wide with a rack ... more

Booze Cruise to Aldi!

Advantages: Excellent value for money, everything in same place
Disadvantages: can't do a whole shop there yet

Aldi is a German supermarket. Every branch in the World are to the exacting same size, spec and layout. They stock non branded food and goods and they can knock the spots off even M&S for quality and flavour. I'M NOT GOING THERE! ---------------------------------------- The shops were basic, like the old days of Kwik Save when you had boxes stacked up and the staff had to memorise everything in the store as there were no prices attached/on the ...
...recognise you being there! ALDI U-TURN! -------------------------------------- Get that image out of you head right now! I received a nice little notice from Aldi on a visit about two years ago telling me that they are very sorry about raising the prices a little but they are improving the quality of their products and offering a guarantee that if the product is not satifactory you can return it for another or a refund. Fantastic but the proof ...

What a Surprise

Advantages: Good quality at reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: smaller selection.

...that my original impression of Aldi was tained a long time ago when i visited the store that opened a few miles down the road not long after it opened. The place was chaos incarnate, with all the products out of place, pricing unclear, staff non existant and tills that took cash only. I never went back again after that experience. I bit the bullet about three weeks ago and dropped into the same Aldi for some bits and bobs as i was waiting for a ...
...at home or waste. Aldi now take Visa & Delta debit cards at the tills which helps greatly, as i hate carrying cash around with me although they do not yet operate a 'code' chip and pin, you still have to manually sign your receipt. Overall i would have to say that Aldi have turned around what used to be a shopping nightmare and created a wonderful store full of quality goods at reasonable prices. An all round pleasent shopping experience, well ...

A cheap way to get your five-a-day

Advantages: Superb value especially on fruit and veg
Disadvantages: Sometimes a lack of choice on goods

...had always shied away from Aldi because in the past they wouldn't take credit cards and we normally pay by this method to get points on our card. However, to attract new custom they now take all major forms of credit cards so that's a tick in my box. The stores are springing up everywhere, yes, even in South Wales, and the mother-in-law (gawd bless her) remarked one day how cheap the fruit and veg was. A few months ago, we went in, and the secret ...
...fruit and veg are put out. If you leave it too long, what's left is really shoddy and not that nice. Pick the right days and you are in for a treat. The fruit and veg, apart from being of exceptional quality is also staggeringly cheap. An excuse in the past for not eating the requisite five-a-day is that such items are extortionate. I've paid over £3 for a bunch of grapes in Tesco, £2.49 for strawberries and £1.86 for a pineapple, 6 tomatoes 39p, ...

Don't expect too much and you'll get bucketloads

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, great special offers
Disadvantages: Queues and some things can be a bit dodgy.

...supermarket chain but I love Aldi and feel it is my duty to honour them with my prose. Trouble is that I like to amuse my self be writing things that make me laugh and I'm going to struggle big-time. I'll start by saying that Aldi is no longer a name to cause shame and is, I think, even a trendy place to shop nowadays. We are blessed in our small town to have one and everyone who is everyone seems to go there at least every so often. This has got ...
...the main, good quality. Aldi has grown and grown over the years, forged on these principles, and has been in the UK for 18 years now and has over 300 stores. This growth can only happen if they have a good product based on sound business principles and they are very transparent in what they are about . It would be impossible to write about every aspect of the store so I'll focus on the bits that stand out for me. Space --------- The final frontier. ...

The places I go for my mother!

Advantages: Very cheap prices and some surprises
Disadvantages: Very limited range

...would bother to go to Aldi if it wasn't my mother's favourite shop and now I have to do a 10 mile round trip so that her cats can have the food that they prefer as my local store has closed. The journey there: Easy access from the Black Country Spine route and also on the main road from Darlaston to Wolverhampton. Parking: Easy access to the car park via a side road. Plenty of parking space with limited chil and disabled parking. Trollies: ...
...style only but big enough for most shops. They need a pound coin to release them from the line. No baskets are available. Store layout: Lots of room in the aisles. Most products are unshelved and in boxes, The order and placement of goods is generally fairly logical and not changed too often. Range: There is usually a product of the type you want, but most are own brands and there is little or no choice (I variety of baked beans( 1 variety of ...

Top of the shops.............

Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above

Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you! In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op, Farm Foods and Iceland. I have never had a bad experience with Asda and the stock is usually replenished quite quickly! They have such a huge range that I know I can do my weekly shop and more there. Everything ...

really friendly

Advantages: most towns have em
Disadvantages: usually busy

The staff at All Asda stores which i have been in have been really friendly. they always are really willing to help. Asda stores sell clothes, food, alcohols, teddys/soft toys, electricals, gifts, CD/tapes, and tabacco. they have a wide range of each product to suit everybodies financial needs. the wines are great too, they sell the old traditional stuff such as whiskey to the younger choices such as alcopops. Asda is not really expensive to shop too, well not as a expensive as Marks and Sparks, but not as cheap as Aldi. the clothes are quite nice and starting to get trendy for younger people. ...

Review of Asda (Shop)

Most underrated supermarket in England

Advantages: great choice at a fair price
Disadvantages: store locations can be out of the way

There certainly is more reasons to shop at Morrisons supermarket . The small West Yorkshire based chain is not everyone's first choice but they offer a quality shopping environment with modern stores and a great range of products at prices comparable to the likes of Tesco and Aldi. They have a very competetively priced hot food counter in most larger stores selling hot chicken thighs and drumsticks not to mention pork pies and cornish pasties. Also in store they have a wet fish counter which sells fresh marine products attractively priced and marketed . They fruit and veg department has different size packs for a single person living on their own right through to a family sized pack . Finally thr instore bakery has a superb range of hot and fresh bread products starting with 800 g size white loaves at 49p . Very nice they are too ...
