my first trip to aldi's was very educational, not to say entertaining. First off,I was amazed how bare and cold it was,no fancy packaging,no piped music, just big cardboard boxes, and pallets full of what ever it is you are looking for.we made the fatal error of going on saturday,at peak shopping time, and it was packed,we soon picked up a trick when we went to get a trolley, which is not always easy at peak times, and you have to put a pound coin in to release the trolley, instead,as soon as someone came to return their trolley,we gave them the pound, and marched off with their trolley. once inside,it is very easy to get around, and lots of there items are very cheap, such as bread,17 pence, but take care of the sell by date, no use stocking up loads of bread and pikelets, when you get home to find they must be eaten the same day,or next day, very economical though if you shopped daily.also the tinned foods are very cheap,12 pence for a tin of beans,or seven pence some days.most things are available, loads of cereals, just not named brands, flour and sugar is very cheap too,and butter is very good, really it's a case of trial and error, you will find that some foods you don't like,so avoid them, but overall,a very cheap place to shop, especially if you live alone.the staff are amazing, they have to memorize every item,we didn't know this, and stood at the checkout as she put our food on the conveyor belt, and it was so funny,my husband was gobsmacked,he bent his knees as if he was off on a run,and just shovelled it in the basket,it made me laugh so much,it was well worth the trip just to see this, but well done the staff, they work very hard.
