I have used Aldi supermarket, not as my main supermarket but more as a corner shop food stall. I have been using Aldi stores since my first branch opened up in Radford, Coventry. Overall I have been very happy with all areas of the Aldi store apart from the quality.
Food Quality.
Some of Aldi's food is very nice however some is horrid. Things to avoid are; fresh food such as eggs, milk bread, butter etc. I think these are best avoided because they last a good while shorter than most of the main supermarkets equivalent so they stay fresher for longer. The general quality of the food is exceptional but with some food you can really taste the cheapness in it.
Cleanliness
Generally, Aldi store is clean and tidy with very little spillages of products, which I find is a common problem in some other supermarkets such as Tesco. My local store is a reasonable size and everything has space. The decorative order of Aldi is very dark and dingy with brown tiled floors and beige walls; my local is no way airy.
Staff.
The staffs at Aldi Radford are quite pleasant and as it’s quite a small supermarket, if asked they can take you to your requested isle with little hassle. I have heard on ciao of the staff being slow at the checkouts… Well at Radford Coventry there’s no messing around its quick with no bother. Trying to find a worker around the store is easy as there is plenty around packaging shelf’s etc.
Price.
The price is what attracts the shopper at Aldi as their prices are so lo it’s UN believable. Every Thursday the new special offers will go on sale so Thursdays the day to shop! Current special offers this week is:
· Virtually Fat free yoghurt 500g £0.59p. · Olive light spread 250g £0.69p · Lentil and Bacon and mixed been soup £0.45p (Yuk!) · Back Bacon 250g £1.29p · Apple and Raspberry spring water £0.39p (only 3.9p per 100ml) · Mitre Saw £29.99 (available from the 21st of February) · 6 Scotch pancakes £0.49p (8.2p per Pancake!) · Bio natural yoghurt £0.39p.
All these products are exceptionally good value for money, which makes it such a good store. Be careful on the quality of the products, as this is what lets the store down.
Range of products.
The general range of products isn’t too bad. They have all of what you need for the normal weekly shop. They don’t sell many well-known makes of food. In the dog food section. They have a few makes of crisps but very little choice among products.
How can you pay?
There were rumours going around that Aldi only were bale to take cheque. This was true… But the good news is that Aldi is able to take credit card, cheque and cash now. This has made a big improvement to Aldi in general.
Trolleys.
The trolleys are in one size. Slightly smaller than the normal Safeway’s or Tesco trolley but big enough to fit the essentials, which are why, most people only go to Aldi for the essentials and then splash out on cash in Tesco or Asda! Make sure you have a pound coin on you other wise you won’t be able to hire a trolley! But don’t worry its only a deposit to keep the thieving of trolleys down to a minimum.
Overall.
Overall Aldi is a great place to shop if you don’t mind having to go to another store as well. I was going to Aldi and then Tesco when the cash was low and believe me it’s a lot of p*s*ing around but it helps keep the bills down! I can recommend Aldi to most especially the common student where money is a problem.
Good op, you are right about the range, it is limited but they have everything you need to get you through the week.

Interesting Op, as Aldi is well known in Germany, where it comes from. ;-) They accept Credit Cards like Mastercard, Visa and these? Hey, that's unbelievable ... Here they accept the euro-cheque card for about a year now, AFAIK. But it's much better to pay cash, because it's still much faster handling then, even if the Euro Money makes us a little more searching for the right coin :-))) -- cu, Burkard
Advantages: excellent value for money, faster, more efficient Disadvantages: lack of recognisable brands, less customer service, some products it is wiser to avoid
