This review is on Aldi, which is I believe (but do correct me if I am wrong) a German company that has been in existence in the UK now for a number of years. Their motto of 'spend a little live a lot' is certainly true, as you can most certainly get something in Aldi that will cost loads more elsewhere for the similar product.
This is a no nonsense company, with no added extras in their store - I mean no cafes; no photo processing centres, and no staff. The queues are unbelievably long, with only about two people (if you are lucky) serving - and they are only there, because they cannot be bothered to look for a better job. But that said, when you DO eventually get to the front, then you are served pretty quickly. Only wait to catch your shopping, as they pick it up; scan it through, and then throw it down towards the end of the till checkout area. You then feel bad, as there are loads of people waiting behind you as you struggle to get your shopping in some order.
You have to pay for your carrier bags, whhich is a good idea I think as it makes you think about how much you are paying out for your goods. Yes, they are no more than about 3p but when you have to buy loads then it does mount up. A tip is to pick up any loose cardboard boxes that are left overs from theh staff stacking goods on to the shhelves, as these can then be used as ways and or means of carryiing your shopping and whatever else to the car.
There is a wide range of goods on sale, from your average weekly food wants to extras such as electrical and camping equipment and so on. There may be special offers depending on what they can get their hands on, so it may be worth taking a look in there from time to time as you are passing.
There is nearly always something in stock for what you are looking for, but if not then chances are then it will be there in store quite soon. The quality is usually pretty good, and a lot of it does in fact come from the continent.
The presentation of the layout is generally quite good,, and is laid out like you would expect from any other supermarket. But the prices of goods are a little confusing, as there are so many labels placed everywhere so take a little extra time in looking for the prices.
I cannot comment on after sales service, as I have never had to return anything back to the shop. But one can only assume that it is generally the same as other shops, so you can't go far wrong there.
As already noted here, the staff can be a little on the side of the unknown. They don't put many on the tills, but that said they don't have all that many staff anyway! But for a little shop, you wouldn't expect to have too many staff on anyway.
I have mixed feelings about Aldi, I keep on going there but don't always want to go there if that makes any sense! HHowever, I would just like to say that I would encourage you to at least visit it as the shop is a good one for getting that little extra something that you may not find ever again - anywhere!
