Boese has written a nice work of popular science here. The book is an exploration of offbeat experiments throughout the ages, the most entertaining being the title one, where Tusko the elephant (and some others) were given massive doses of LSD and the results noted. Others include the "lost-in-a-mall" experiment, which established the possibility of false memories, and an experiment on the idea that listening to Mozart increases intelligence.
