Fuel economy is outstanding given the performance with an average of 50-55mpg for average motoring ... ...was all I lost and Alfa never quibbled or argued to their credit.
If you are thinking of owning one they are a hell of a lot of fun but can be expensive on your pocket if you make mistakes. Overall a good car with a reasonable amount of space and the ability to put a smile on your face. ... more
My Alfa is a 156 1.9JTD 16V which has the sportier 150bph engine. Overall I am relatively pleased with the car but its a blessing that its a company one and not a personal one.
The performance and looks of the car are pretty good with the accerleration quite punchy, cornering good and the suspension firm enough without shaking your bones. Fuel economy is outstanding given the performance with an average of 50-55mpg for average motoring (one or two longer journeys per week) and never below 40mpg on average even in traffic. If you sit at a steady 55-60mph you can easily get over 60mpg!
Having said all of this the reliability is a downside with a total of nearly 4 weeks spent in the garage in the last year (not counting the propensity for people to reverse into my car when it is parked and without me in it). The speedo and temperature gauge have been completely replaced and the gearbox failed on delivery. Having said that these were all replaced under warranty so a little time was all I lost and Alfa never quibbled or argued to their credit.

My second car and so far my favourite one! Drove an average of 200 km per day and really enjoyed the comfort of this car, just great. Engine very much reliable, although I blew it up for unknown reason. Average fuel consumption of 17-18 km per liter, mostly on highways. Almost no oil consumption. Engine very steady at 130 km per hour, maximum around 180 km per hour. Engine aluminium made, so should be given quite some time to heat up. Enough space ...
