I owned my Alfa 156 2.0 T-spark for a year in 2000. It was a fantastic year of motoring. I bought the car brand new from a dealership in Germany. I was able to get a huge discount, so the car was a real bargain.
The car had the 155BHP engine which was never really lacking in power until past 120MPH, (on autobahns!). The top speed reached was about 140 MPH, although this was indicated on the speedometer so I would take 5MPH or so off that for something more accurate.
I had the sports pack 3 fitted to mine, which included 16inch alloys, leather interior, 10 cd changer, side skirts, etc. However, I did not opt for the shopping trolley rear spoiler. Personally I think it looks ridiculous on such a car, and prevents you taking the car through the car wash.
I found the car comfortable enough on long journeys, with trips through the back roads handled with ease thanks to Alfa's responsive chassis.
The car was a real head turner and felt very special to own. The name Alfa Romeo in my mind always seemed pretty special, with images of sports cars tearing through the beautiful Italian scenery on a sunny day. It certainly does a lot more as a name than Bavarian Motor Works!
I sold the car in 2001 for a profit. I'm now driving a Punto HGT, for which I have written a review entitled 'A Pricey Punto'... Lets just say I sometimes regret selling my beloved Alfa!

Beautiful Car review ofAlfa Romeo 156 2.0 Tsby

Advantages: Beautifull car good quality Disadvantages: Turning circle.
I love the look of this car it is beautiful, me and my mum share one at the moment. The car is reliable comfortable drives well and handle's well too. I have lost it a couple of times on roundabouts when driving, but was able to keep control without being all over the road. Where ever you put the car it goes. The petrol consumption is good when driving around normally but when you put your foot down (i don't know how the T-spark thing works but it ... ...sound. There are not many things that have gone wrong with the car that i can remember, all the electrics are working fine and this is on a T-plate. The bad thing about this car is the turning circle. It is really annoying when trying to park at the supermarket, i'll be heading in for a sweeping turn then halfway through the steering wheel wont go anymore, then usually the person behind you gets too close so you can't reverse out again. Apart from ...

Advantages: cheap when imported , beautifully styled and good standard features Disadvantages: engine reliability , variator reliability , fuel guage , fusebox covers , suspension squeaks , colour on leather seats , boot accessibility
...reconditioned unit kindly supplied by Alfa FREE OF CHARGE (the least I would have expected) is not a scratch performance wise on my last engine. Maybe its still tight and requires longer to break in. So all in all a rocky ride, but as other Alfa owners who have encountered similar and possibly worse headaches will testify, you can't stop loving the car. And why should you, it handles beautifully, packs a reasonable 150 BHP and where appropriate speed ...

...We've been very happy with Alfa Romeo's aftercare service. I can't comment on the cost of spare parts as I've not really needed any!
- The insurance isn't too crippling for the 2.0TS model. I pay around £800 with full no claims; it will drop quite a bit next year once I turn 30.
We chose the Alfa ahead of the following cars for the following reasons:
BMW 3-series: too boring, cramped accomodation, pricey
Mercedes: boring "old man car", expensive

Advantages: Cost Disadvantages: Maybe foreign part costs - but I'm not sure
...new prices on offer from Alfa make owning this car even more attractive. Alfa have recently slimmed down their prices although I'm not too sure as to how this compares with the rest of the industry in general with car prices under some scrutiny.
Having test driven one recently I was impressed with the looks and engine note. The interior was a little drab I thought and didnt really match the exterior looks. It is well worth the extra expense of going ... ...the best option is to go for the top of the range Veolce, as you get lots of options for not really that much extra cash - plus its still a lot better value than a BMW of a lesser spec. You would probably only get a 1.8 BMW compared to the 2.0 version from Alfa.
My mind has been swayed, I'm off to the dealers ! ...

...but I really love my Alfa Romeo. It looks great, handles very well, has a fantastic engine and the equipment level is very good. The engine is responsive but frugal and, with a mix of 80% motorway and 20% city driving, I normally average 46 mpg. I have the TI trim, which has a firm ride that some may find too hard, but it is as I expected. I think the cabin is very good, and my only complaint is that, in my view, the brake and accelerator pedals ...
