I own a 166 2.4JTD now for 2,5 years, and enjoy every day. Its very confortable, with lots of space. I bought it second hand 3years old, and that makes it the best buy you can imagine. Since people still think these Alfa dont have build quality the second hand value was quite low. Now, my 166 has about 250000 kilometers on the odometer and its still perfect. No oil consumption, no mechanical problems or electronic gremlins. And my driving style is 'heavy footed', so i am certainly not easy on it.. I chiptuned the Diesel engine 1,5 years ago.. at 170k, transforming the car into a fast car, with 170hp and 400NM torque.. Although i would like a new car every now and then, i still cant think of any rational reason to let it go... Diesel consumption is very modest.. 14.1 km per liter.. with my racing driving style.. i call this super!
O yes.. downsides... they exist.. My wife has an Alfa 156, and the handling of this one is better.. more sporty.. but less for the big roads.. What i dont like as well are the brakes.. they vibrate a bit.. guess thats just my car.. but maybe i just have to replace the rotors....
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
This really isn't very helpful for UK buyers - 166 diesels are as rare as hen's teeth here, but I have to agree that of all the Alfa's that I have tried the 166 is by far the best one, partly due to a much bigger difference to any Fiat model. Richard.

Yes it does sound as if your discs (rotors) need replacing. Nice car..Baz
