Alfa's stylish estate
Advantages: Very stylish appearance. Probably the most attractive estate car available on the British market Disadvantages: 1.6 engine a little under-powered.
I've owned an Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 Sportwagon for three years and covered almost 100,000 miles during that time. I certainly do not regret my choice of car and would be very happy to repeat my decision when replacing my current car.
As with all Alfas, the 156 has a sporty feel, although the 1.6 engine lacks the torque of bigger bore versions. Unfortunately, the 1.6 has been dropped from the Sportwagon range and is therefore only available now on the ... ...a car manufacurer whose emphasis has always been more about style and performance than practicality.
Indeed, practicality has been overlooked even in an estate. The carrying capacity is rather limited but is probably quite sufficient for most people's requirements. The cabin looks modern and uncluttered with a good quality stereo and very powerful air conditioning system. Seats are firm and comfortable with decent rear head and leg room.
Apart ...

Italian flair IS infectious
Advantages: Performance, Stylish Design, Comfort Serious FUN Disadvantages: Where did all the room go?
...the customer service of Alfa Romeo (Europe) to be second to none.
A superb car as far as I am concerned- At the very least, it is worth a good serious look, AND a test drive.
2004 Facelift makes it More beautiful...Take a look.
Hopefully this was of some use. ...

Sporty feeling estate
Advantages: Sporty Estate Disadvantages: Not large load carrier
I loved this car. Bags and bags of torque. Unfortunately I bought an import thinking it was the 150 BHP model but it was actually the 138 model. Mine was silver with the red leather interior which we could not live with. My wife only drove the car once and instantly took a disliking to it. She never did want me to buy it in the first place. However I am now looking for another, possibly the facelift model and with lots more power. Now 175 BHP as ...

The feel good experience...
Advantages: Looks, style, electric roof, heated mirrors, good radio & CD changer, leather seats, nimble Disadvantages: Costly to maintain, head lights weak? A bit twitchy in the wet.
...out of warranty I've found there's a number of 3rd market firms that supply things like exhaust, radiators at very good prices - like half Alfa list prices.
Overall there's that "feel good" factor of having an open top car with character - in my view a classic Alfa ...

You're not a petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa.
Advantages: Fantastic driving experience, high quality finish, that growl Disadvantages: Bad image regards reliability, some niggles
I purchased my Alfa 147 in 2005 after falling in love with the noise she makes. Nothing has the same growl as an alfa. When I bought my 147 she was already 3 years old, and is nearly 6 now. I spend a lot of time driving each week for work, around 300 miles a week in fact, so I have experience of her on all kinds of roads and journeys. The first thing to be mentioned when I think of my car is the ride quality. I'm informed by passengers that she is ... ...headturner. Now, everyone hears alfa and still hears alfasud, the notoriously unreliable, shoddily built alfa of yore. Build quality has improved hugely. I've even had kids inside mine and they didn't reduce it to it's bare component parts and they were in there a full 45 mins. I have had very few issues over the last 3 years, a new rear suspension bushel was needed, and I have a weeping power steering cable. Maintenance on her is pretty regular ...
