Review of "Alicante Airport, Alicante"
I'm 34 years old and have lots of opinions! I like to review places that I have travelled to, as well as anything else that I might find interesting. I am also tor0908 on dooyoo.co.uk
I use Alicante airport for my annual break in Spain and find it is convenient and fairly easy to use.It is situated just outside Alicante on the Costa Blanca, around 46.5km from Benidorm. It is within driving distance of Valencia, around two hours and 179km.
ArrivalsYou would probably fly to Alicante if you were staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, Calpe, Moraira or Teulada. It is popular with budget airlines such as Easyjet and Bmibaby and there are flights from many regional airports in the UK such as East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Stansted to name a few.
There are around ten car hire companies who operate out of the airport including the big names like Avis, Europcar and Hertz, these desks are located in the arrivals hall and can get busy at peak times. There are also local car hire companies who have a van usually located in the car park, who's rates are usually much better.Alicante airport is located right off the AP-7/N-332 motorway which leads north towards Benidorm and south towards Torrevieja. It is clearly signposted and easy to access. Sometimes the barriers controlling access have been known to not work, although that has only happened once to the person picking me up from the airport.
There is a car park situated right opposite the entrance to the airport which usually has a lot of space, I have never had serious trouble finding a spot to leave the hire car.Departures
The terminal is quite big and recently extended to house a second terminal building. Easyjet seem to be based in the second terminal as there are quite a few flights in and out of this particular airport. Once you go through security control the terminals merge back into one and all the facilities are in one place. There are several cafes and restaurants including a Burger King, newsagents, designer shops such as a Burberry and Lacoste, shops selling locally produced souvenirs and a large, well stocked duty free shop.
The toilets do leave something to be desired and could probably do with more frequent inspections but that is to be expected from a busy airport. There are lots of places to sit at the individual gates while waiting for your flight, as well as screens detailing the flight information.
It is a good choice if you are staying in southern Spain, and overall I have found it to be a good airport to travel through.
