The Lion and the Unicorn?
Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass - Lewis Carroll by
saundej
Advantages: Reminds me of being 5
Disadvantages: Alice is hardly a sex symbol
...Desparate to enjoy a hint of lost childhood, I turned to "Alice..."; although I'd never actually read this particular tome before (its a sort of sequel to "Alice in Wonderland"). I think I conclude that really one needs to have a small child to whom one can read this stuff in order to really enjoy it. The adult mind demands rather too much structure and continuity. One moment we seem to be indulging in a rather frivoulous discourse with Humpty D.; then all of a sudden we're watching the Lion and the Unicorn resting after a fight. Why? Perhaps with the clear insight of a child we would be able to rise above such questions. Its good to see Hatter and the March Hare making a return visit - in slight disguise, no less. Allegedly the chess puzzle is solvable....

To be once more a little child
for one bright summer day.
Summary of the story
The story begins with Alice sitting with her sister by the river when suddenly she sees a white rabbit hurrying past muttering to himself about being late. Curiosity causes Alice to follow...

Unforgettable!
Review of After You'd Gone - Maggie O'Farrell by

Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review
...with your mind, even when you were not reading it at that time, well After You’d Gone was getting under my skin and it’s certainly not often that a book has this affect on me, well certainly not a fictional one anyway.
I have to say that the only bit of the book I truly enjoyed reading was that of the relationship of Alice and John, I was sucked into their world of love, intimacy, passion and happiness with them, I so wanted a happy ending for her, I felt she deserved it, well doesn’t everyone deserve a bit of happiness in their life?
This book will leave with questions about your own life, how you feel about things like adultery, secrets, death, religion, love and friendship, by the time I had finished reading, I found myself grateful for the things in my life and how to value them properly, like family, love, friendship...
