becoming a less pleasant person. Showing the same incisive and outrageous wit as in his previous books where he first took on the self-help craze then New Labour's addiction to spin Alistair Beaton now tackles the management gurus. Read this book and you will be transformed overnight into a successful modern manager capable of talking authentic management bollocks at any hour of the day or night because let's face it talking bollocks is what modern management is all about. Below are a few of the gems contained within THE LITTLE BOOK OF MANAGEMENT BOLLOCKS...RISK MANAGEMENT Improve risk management outcomes by never investing in anything. INSPIRING OTHERS As a manager it's your job to inspire others. If there's nothing inspiring about you just use fear instead.
defects? It's time to act. Chase away those deep-seated psychological flaws with a little book of advice to suit your own unique personality deficiency. And there is no need to restrict yourself to a single volume either. Why get the goldfish bowl feng shui-ed if you are still fighting the urge to take it to work with you and crash it over your boss's head? To enjoyThe Little Book of Complete Bollocksyou need only two things--a healthy scepticism for all things self-help (although let's face it, you may well have dabbled in the past--it adds to the fun if you've got first-hand experience) and most important of all, an all-consuming desire to rip the living daylights out of the next person who tells you that you that the north-west corner of your living room needs a goldfish (it's a wealth and prosperity thing. Probably.).The Little Book of Complete Bollocksmay not make you any friends, but it may just help you get up in the morning, look in the mirror and say "hey, your looking good. Today I'm going to fall in love with myself again and tell the world what a special, giving person I am". --Gala Brand
Advantages: A brilliantly writtenWW2 thriller full of action, clever planning and bravery Disadvantages: None
...front, then there is the constant awareness of the deadline for the ships going through the straits and the need for the guns to be silenced before they arrive. Plus - the Germans seem to be very good at finding them....
The book succeeds because of its strong story and pacey writing, great believable personnel and little insights into their non war lives, hopes and dreams. You can feel the tense courage of the teams and their absolute belief in their ability to succeed.
Its really stirring stuff !!
I will definitely reread it several times and almost certainly get more from it on each reading....

Advantages: Large number of books of high class action Disadvantages: A few weak links
...a writing career lasting 31 years, consisting of 28 novels, 1 collection of short stories and 3 non-fiction works. MacLean was also known to use the pseudonym of Ian Stuart.
All of MacLean's best work were based upon the first hand knowledge and experience that MacLean had. Keystones of his work was the attention to detail and the tension that MacLean managed to instow in his writing. Equally they all followed the same formula of a hero fighting against overwhelming odds, with little distraction from female characters.

Advantages: Absorbing, Easy to Read, An Original, Page Turner Disadvantages: Character and Thematic Depth a little shallow
...does really well to make this very believeable. The character depth may be a little shallow, and the thematic weight may not entirely be there, but the pace and dialogue make it a clean absorbing read. From the time the Dolphin moves under the Arctic ice it becomes evident that it is not going to be an easy journey.
The book was written in the late 60's and the style of writing is a little different, however it is suprising how little the book seems to have aged. A movie has also been made from this book in the early 80's, which if you have seen it allows for some good visualisation throughout the read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good action read and this book is an original, a classic and probably one of Alistair Maclean's best.
Visit ebay to pick it up dirt cheap either by itself or with other Alistair...
