Detox patches for your feet

I am a bit of a hippy when it comes to herbal medicine and believe that plants and herbs can be more powerful and effective when it comes to healing the human body than traditional western medicine. I smoke, I drink alcohol and I have late nights so not really the lifestyle of someone who likes to take care of themselves. On the plus side I do try and eat healthy and get some exercise in. I also like to try and detox my body and purge as many of the rubbish out of it as I can.

The best way to detox is through diet but this is complicated and gets in the way of my life too much. I discovered these detox patches a couple of years ago and really do believe that they are a great way of supporting the body and helping it to flush out toxins and other junk that are by products from a busy modern life.

They are made by a company called Nutriworks and can be bought from their website and several independent chemists and health shops. They aren't cheap and cost £29.99 for a pack of 20. I do think that they are overly expensive like most so called natural remedies but as I only tend to use every half year or so I can justify spending the money to myself. If you are curious about the patches but want to check them out before spending that amount of money they also sell a trial box containing just two patches which is suitable for one nights use for £3.99.

What you get for your money is 20 individual patches which measure about 16cm x 12cm and they have an adhesive for sticking them to the skin. The patches are designed to be used on the bottom of your feet and for best results you are supposed to put them on at night and sleep with them on. They are slightly padded because of the herbal mixture which is in them and this herbal mixture is supposed to draw the toxins from your body overnight and store them in the plaster.

The patches contain a load of supposedly all natural ingredients but the main ingredients are Mandarin wood vinegar (which I can smell when using the patches) and Tourmaline. These two ingredients are what draw the toxins out into the patches and according to the website they also have unseen infa red capabilities which stimulate the reflexology points in the feet. The drawing of the toxins and the stimulation of the reflexology supposedly helps the body improve its circulation and strengthens its ability to detox itself.

When wearing the patches I do notice that my feet do become slightly warmer and I am aware of them even though they aren't uncomfortable to wear. When you wake up in the morning and remove the patches from your feet you will notice straight away that they are a dark black in colour and very wet and sticky. The first time I used them I thought that this was from the toxins coming out of my body but in actual fact they go like this from the sweat from your feet and would do the same if you put them under a tap. It's quite a powerful psychological thing to see this blackness for the first time but just don't be too excited by it.
