Advantages: Good story, enjoyable writing and exciting ending Disadvantages: No epilogue
Background
I'm sure most people have heard of this author Ian Rankin through the Rebus books and television series. This was however my first experience of his work.
About the Author
Ian Rankin was born in Fife, Scotland in 1960. He is the UK's Number 1 selling crime author. So far he has written 27 novels, of which his most successful have been the Rebus books. His first novel was indeed 'The Flood', which originally was planned for Radio 4's Short story section but was considered too long so Rankin converted it into a novel instead.
He has received many awards for his work including an OBE in 2002 for his services to literature.
The Storyline of the book

Advantages: a great book to read with the little ones Disadvantages: none
All change- Ian Whybrow&David melling
Whats it all about?
All change is a lovely story for children, it all starts when tiger is upset as it was his birthday and everyone has forgot...or so he thinks.
Miss lollipop takes him for a birthday ride to cheer him up, along the way they meet lots of lovely characters such as a billy goat, a seal and various other wonderful characters that children will love but be careful.....when one of the characters say "all change" they end up in another form of transport, starting with a car and then moving to a boat, a plane, a racing car and lots more!- a fun way to learn about transport and animals.
Why is it so good? (My opinion based on my experience of reading with my daughter who is 3 years old)
My daughter loves this book as it is full of fun characters and lots of bright colours ...
Advantages: Compelling performances Disadvantages: Can feel a little long
Niro's performance is typically tough - he really played the part and put on all the weight necessary. Doing the boxing training to help with the fighting scenes, gaining about 5 stone and banging his head against a wall as La Motta declined are just some of the lengths he went to, to really feel and look the part.
The film won 2 Oscars and deservedly so. I would recommend it but be warned, it's one of those films which isn't a pleasure to see. It's not meant to be enjoyed in the usual sense. The boxing scenes are harrowing and the documentary style is often jarring.
I watched this on TV but the video is around £8 in the shops but is available on Amazon for much cheaper than that. The DVD is about £16. ...
