I have been an Alliance And Leicester/Giro Bank customer for just over one year.
The standard of Customer Service has dropped since i have been banking with them. When i transfered my bank account from HSBC they were only too happy to get me signed up for their UNDER 18 VISA ELECTRON DEBIT CARD ACCOUNT.
The account is probably the best around, better than SOLO and SWITCH.
The bank offers you competitive rate of interest which is variable and can change from time to time and at present that rate is 3.90% Gross AER.Interest is added to the account each month depending on when you order your statements.
The other benefits of the account its self is that you can withdraw upto £250 a day from any cash machine without being charged by using the other banks ATM (Automatic Teller Machine).
You can check your account balance by either Mobile text messaging, Telephone,TV and the Internet.Their Customer Service is quite poor considering that they go to one hour training sesions a week.
I mean the other week i lost my Visa Electron Card i rang the head office that deals with card loss and they said that i did have access to my cash even without my card by going into the bank and handing over my ID which they refused. So next time you lose your card remember your the customer and the customer is always right.
When you open and under 18 account they will give you the option to have a short magazine subscription to one of the following magazines: J-17, Smash Hits and other ones you even have the chance to carry on the subscription at a subsidised price.

I don't like banks, myself - I rather detest the idea of paying them to keep my money for me. -Sarah
