The difficulty options are impressive, with the level you choose making difference's on Carnby's strengths, the enemy's strengths and the amount of ammo available, a system so admirable many games have followed ... ...and the digitised speech brings new personality to the characters, who can now also jump. The most major problem I found is the collision detection. To use an item, you have to be pixel-perfectly aligned with it for the interaction to be accepted. Trouble is, you are rarely warned that you are in the wrong position, so you often think you are wrong in trying that combination, and end up taking a lot longer than required with that puzzle and getting ...

...Many people have criticised the Alone in the Dark series for its control system but I find this a little hard to understand. For me it is simple to use, intuitive, and works well. The only real problem comes when fine aiming is needed for throwing things, or aiming a gun. At one stage you must throw a bottle in a narrow passageway, with a wall of spikes at your back, and getting that bottle to avoid the sides of the hallway was a task worthy of nightmares. ... ...best to help you, if only you can free her first. She will, however, leave the bulk of the work for you.
Alone in the Dark 3 is a western with an intriguing story behind it, some wonderful graphics and challenging puzzles, and it is a delight to play. ...

Advantages: theme is good Disadvantages: just like all the rest, crap
I had alone in the dark number 2 and hated it, so, I would not buy this new version, instead I borrowed it from a friend.
It was vastly improved from the last one, still boaring though, the wild wild west theme was good, being able to choose the different strengths of your man help a bit.
