The third generation of the Alpha microprocessor, the Alpha 21264C, is a superscalar, superpipelined implementation of the Alpha architecture. Designed for performance, the Alpha 21264C achieves this goal by carefully studied and simulated architectural and circuit analysis. The 21264C memory system also enables the high performance levels. On-chip and off-chip caches provide for very low latency data access, which allows for very high bandwidth data access. This processor upgrade includes OpenVMS SMP license.
Advantages: Really good for multitasking. Great value Disadvantages: Cant clock it to 3 ghz without getting it really hot.
...Well this processor is nothing new really. It is pretty much the same thing as the amd 2700 chip. However it has a 512 cache. It is double that of p4s and other amd chips. Although it runs at 2.167 ghz it is faster than a 2.5ghz p4. How cool is that. It can run most games fairly well. The only game it cant run smoothly is halo, even when I used a radeon 9800xt. However you can overclock it a bit to 2.5ghz and it will run great.
Since it has the barton core like the amd 64 processor it will be able to run some 64 bit applications. I bought this processor because I was building a pc for myself. So far I have no problems. You can clock it to 3 ghz but you will need a better heatsink and a loud fan to keep it cool. I reccomend you only clock it 2.5ghz max....

Advantages: Good quality and good value for money- easily overclocked Disadvantages: starts off slow and you have to overclock :D
...clockspeed. Having just released their 733 and 766 MHz Celeron processors in Japan, and with problems getting anything at 1GHz or higher out to sell, Intel is sure in a rut.
(Duron 800 - Duron 650 (Yes, that is a copy of Maxim magazine behind them)
Pictures that you might have seen of the Duron processor show off its strong blue tint that has been on lacking previous Duron processors. Many readers initially believed that these processors came from the fab in Dresden, meaning they had copper interconnects like the 1+ GHz Athlons. They were wrong, however, all Durons were and are still being made only in Austin and have aluminum interconnects.
Well, after having your hopes dashed on that field, lets see the stats of the CPU itself:
Socket A interface
0.18-micron manufacturing process
25 million transistors on a 100mm^2 die
128K L1...

Advantages: Cheap as chips, good overclocking potential Disadvantages: Possibly a little obsolete
...As with all AMD products, the Athlon "thunderbird" series of processors offers good speed and excellent value for money. The 1.1Ghz variant displays a frankly moer than adequate performance for most modern desktop applications.
It has a wide range of motherboards and accessories avaiable (just look for socket A), including a good range of cooling products.
It is rare to find one of these installed in a brand new, off the shelf model, but at around £25 - £30, it can offer excellent value for money for thosethat do not require fast performance for games. In fact games are about the only thing that this processor will struggle with, and even then we are talking about the latest 3-D games.
If you are looking to upgrading your Pc to a new processor, but don't think you will need the sort of specifications found on newer PCs...

Introduction:
As Intel continues to offer new technology processors at very affordable price, the older technology processor's price has fallen dramatically to a very low level. The prices for processors are at record low level. This has helped the end... more
As a gamer, I needed the best processor out there. Searching around, the only real debate in this price range was whether to go for the E6850, a dual core CPU, or the Q6600, a quad core at a lower clock. After looking at many different benchmarks and... more
