Progressive scan is standard technology across TVs and when set produces very sharp clear pictures. Pixel Plus 2 is a Phillips technology that does a lot of clever things to improve picture quality. On this setting the picture becomes so impressively rich and realistic that it is quite disturbing and almost off-putting. Once you get over this initial shock you soon come to appreciate the quality of the image you are presented with, it is particularly impressive when watching sports and other shows with lots of movement. Interestingly it makes US shows look like British programs which can be distracting, but again you soon get used to it and will be loathe to be without it.

...I bought this player with Multi Region chip and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well built, well specced machine. Couple it with a Yamaha basic 6 channel input amp and you have a very good (and inexpensive) Dolby Digital system that is easy to set up and great to watch and hear. So far I have had no problems with any disc from any region and would recommend that if you buy this player also to buy a copy of Apollo 13 to demonstrate the capability of DVD. If you are looking for a mid range player you can't go wrong with the Pioneer....

Advantages: Plays DVD MP3 and CD CD-R/RW Any Region. Disadvantages: Plays some DVD's others are juddery.

I received this information from the Help Desk at Apollo2000Direct, who were the retailers. Many thanks to them. The way to stop the problem is to put the scart socket from the DVD player directly to the back of the TV.
