The touch glide bar allows the user to quickly browse thorugh the many different songs that the MP3 unit can play. I recently had my car broken into so the deceiding factor of purchasing this unit was the detachable front panel. The Alpine 9855r is IPOD ready however needs additional KCA-420i adaptor. ...I just recently got this Alpine cd / radio for my car and i just have to say, this brand of electronics is the best, EVER! This is easy to use, the buttons are not too fiddly and with the sound, ease of use and the fact that all Alpine products DO last a long time, its no wonder that its also a brand favoured by celebrities. This system give great sound, no matter what genre of music played, (i havn't tested classical to the max, why would i?)LOL. Of course, with the best electronical brand in the world, it is a bit pricy, but worth every penny. The radio doesnt skip, unlike others (rivals,Sony (grrr) ) and is clear. There is also a years warranty on all Alpine products, which im sure will come in handy in the near future, but if it IS stolen, there is a password, which only you know. ...I bought the Alpine CTA-1502R Commander Tuner/Controller to replace a rather old Alpine Tuner/Tape head unit with CD Changer. Having had a very good experience with my previous Alpine head unit, the replacement had to be an Alpine. Since adding a CD changer to my old head unit, I'd stopped using cassettes because the difference in quality was unbelievable. I therefore didn't want to play tapes on my new unit. That's why I went for the 1502, since all it has built in is a tuner and amplifier. Anything else can be added on, like the CD changer which I bought at the asme time. Since having the unit, about six months, it has worked perfectly. It has a very large display, since there are no openings for CDs, tapes etc. It uses the display for all of the usual info along with a spectrum analyser (flashing lights) which can be changed...
