Advantages: Clear sound, loud Disadvantages: Subwoofer control somewhat lacking
...PC speaker systems do. Altec have really managed to pack power and quality out of these little units as they really can get loud and you won't hear any distortion at all. The one thing I dislike about it is that the subwoofer is a bit weak in Quad mode and whatever mode you're in you either get too much bass or not enough. It would have been nice if Altec had included control over the frequency at which the sub would kick in as I think this is quite ...

Altec Lancing ...THX Review ofAltec Lansing ADA 890 PC multimedia speaker systemby
piiindy
Advantages: great sound quality Disadvantages: n/a
First think that was apparent when i opened the box was the bose look they had about them, they definately made a good impression on me. When i found that the top speakers are disconnectable so that they can be placed anwhere around the room offering surround sound expanding from 2.1 to 4.1 sound which was a great idea on altec's part.
But what good is this if they don't sound any? They do though, and not just good but crystal clear, they don't ... ...which can be really annoying, and they have a peak power of 15W which will definately fill a room and be heard all around the house!. On the right speaker base is the control panel, where the volume, bass, treble and mode is controlable a very handy tool with a clear screen and an on/off switch so you dont have to strugle to the sub-woofer to switch it off like you do on most.
The sub-woofer, packs a mean punch, very powerful giving 60W of power ...

I'm reviewing the Logitech X-530 speaker set, which is a 5.1 Surround Sound speaker set for your computer. The X-530 consists of a set of five small speakers, known as 'satellites', and subwoofer, which is the larger unit that produces the bass. This is... more
When I first saw these speakers in the market, i liked them. The transparent tube and satellite speakers look just great. But I dare not even think of buying them - £140 is a bit too much for me to spend on speakers.

I bought these speakers about a week ago from ebuyer.com for £57 (the OEM version), and am so far very impressed. I used to own a cheap set of 5.1 speakers, so upgrading to 7.1 seemed a good idea. It's useful to note that most films are only 5.1 so not... more
