Advantages: Small, handy size, good for a few photos, or important data Disadvantages: Low capacity for modern cameras
...CF cards have to be one of the most boring things to write about, and they are all much of a muchness in terms of manufacturing quality and durability, so I'll be brief.
Altec have a good reputation, as far as I am aware, for products like these - and of the dozen or so of the memory cards I have, none have had any problems.
An 8MB card will hold approx 8 hi-res photos from a decent digital camera. This is obviously not a lot, but if you were doing portraits of people, or a few quick shots of certain places, keeping them on distinct cards could have its advantages.
Furthermore, just because you mostly see these being used by cameras, doesn't mean you can't use them for other things. I carry some important data - encryption keys, email address books, and important documents on one. You can use readily available (and cheap) adapters...

Fast picture storage Review ofSandisk Compactflash CF 1 GB Ultra II 1000 MBby
christophe81
Advantages: Very fast Disadvantages: None
...This is again a very good value card - compactflash has been the most reliable over the years, I currently use a Canon 300d and use both the standand Sandisk cards and also the Ultra Sandisk card.
I have found that this card is superfluous to what I need, the speed is more than capable for the camera (and 99% of all others)
There is a definite speed advantage over the inferior range - It now writes at 9 mega bytes a second, and reads at 10megabytes a second!
It's well worth the extra few pounds, if you have a fast camera to put it to go use with!
I suggest getting both a fast card like this and a slower one, so you can pick and choose dependant on the forthcoming photoshoot.
You can never have too many cards!...

Having bought this card to be used in Canon EOS 20D & 40D digital cameras they are extremely rapid and much better than the lower speed Sandisk Compact Flashes or other makes. The cameras have not as yet had to stop shooting to allow the card to catch up more
I bought this card along with my Olympus e-500 camera as it was recommended by the seller from whom I bought it. The recommendation was quite good as the card was relatively inexpensive and is very quick writing to the card, there is little if any... more
