Portable hard drives are becoming increasingly more popular amongst PC users, however they can be easily lost, stolen or misplaced. These devices are often used to store sensitive and confidential data such as customer details, company accounts and sales reports, which in the wrong hands could put you and/or your company at serious risk. Securing such devices used to be a time consuming and difficult task, not any more... Amacom's new encryp2disk range provides the ultimate in secure portable data storage by encrypting the entire hard drive and all its contents, with no speed degradation, making it the most secure portable hard drive in the world today. To eliminate the need to remember long and complicated passwords, the encryp2disk is supplied with two Secure Keys, which contain and protect the encrypted password required to access the drive and its contents. Without the use of the correct Secure Key both the encryp2disk hard drive and its data are invisible to the operating system, even if the hard drive is removed from the encryp2disk enclosure and installed in another PC or enclosure, ensuring that only the authorized user can view the confidential data. With no software or drivers to install the encryp2disk provides users with a quick and simple solution to securing their confidential data. Simply insert the supplied Secure Key into the port on the encryp2disk and connect the USB cable to your computers USB port for immediate access to your data. The integrated USB 2.0 high-speed interface allows data to be transferred at up to 40MB/s, whilst also providing backwards compatibility with USB 1.x ports allowing it to be used on older computers that do not have USB 2.0 ports.
Advantages: Fast, high capacity storage. Well built, looks good. 2 year warranty, No fan. Disadvantages: No fan.
...Freecom before as they've always looked a bit cheap and nasty so this would be an interesting experience. The box did feel reassuringly heavy though, a good start.

# What's in the Box?
###############
Apart from the drive, the box contained a small light external PSU, a USB lead and a CD with some backup software.
The case is made of extremly solid and heavy aluminium with a silver plastic front piece with a sexy blue '400GB' light (yes, you can have sexy lights. Really.) at the front just to prove how big it was. The finish is excellent and I have to say, if this is anything to go by, I'm converted to Freecom. Unlike the picture here, my unit has the aluminium finished in matt black which looks really nice on top of my black PC. It's also surprisingly compact - not that much bigger than a harddrive at 20x11.5x4 cms...

Advantages: Noise, Speed Disadvantages: Can't think of anything.
...I came across this a week ago, and was taken in by the capacity and low-noise level. It seemed perfect for installing into a media center PC. Media Center boxes for a lounge need to have plenty of space for recording tv shows, whilst being quiet as to not interrupt the movies.
This hard-drive gives you the best of both worlds. 400Gb - an abundance of storage. (Ideal for ripping your entire music collection onto it) or for movies and downloaded tv episodes.
You're probably wondering what the difference is between this and the other 400Gbdrives on the market, and this one is quietly leading the way. Top performance, with whisper quiet acoustics.
My verdict - buy one today....
