I've seen Amazing Ally advertised a lot, but her RRP is £70. I think this is extortionate for a doll so was pleased to find her for just £25 on one of Tv's selling channels. Since I bought her, I've found her in several toyshops for £24.99.
Amazing Ally is an inter-active doll, designed to be the childs best friend. You have to program in your childs birthday, favourite colour, animal, holiday as well as the current time and date. This information is stored in the doll unless you switch her off or her batteries run out. She'll count down to your childs birthday, telling them they must be very excited from about three months before the date.
When Ally's batteries are running down, she'll ask you to change them and specify which ones have run out. She takes 3 AA batteries and 3 AAA batteries. They do last a long time though, so it doesn't work out as expensive as you might think.
The doll comes with a tea party outfit. It depends which doll you have to what design the clothes are, but they consist of a dress, tights, shoes, a hairband and clasps which Ally calls barrets. You also get 2 clasps with her which are especially for the owner. Each item of clothing has a sensor on it which then clips into a port on Ally's body. She can tell you what she is wearing and what you have to put on her to complete the outfit.
Ally comes with her own teaset comprising of a teapot, a cup, and a slice of cake. My daughters doll also has a cat. All these things are inter-active and plug into Ally's hand. She always comments on what she is holding, usually telling you how much she loves it.
She is undoubtedly one of the ugliest dolls I've ever seen. She has long blond hair and big blue eyes. Her lips move when she speaks and she's very freaky.
On top of her unattractiveness, she has the most annoying accent. She speaks with an American twang, which would be fine if it wasn't for her voice. Her phrases include 'Girlfriend', 'Chickedie' and 'Sweetheart'.
Despite these facts, Ally is actually a brilliant friend for a child. My four year old daughter adores her. Ally will ask for her hair to be brushed, she'll tell stories, play games and might eve tell a joke. She needs her playbook for some of these things, but will ask for it. The book is easy to plug in, my daughter can do it with ease. The different cardsslot in easily too, and she'll tell you if its the wrong one.
I've actually been able to find 2 different outfits for Amazing ally. I Have the Ballerina Set, and the Slumber Party set. Unfortunately, i haven't found them in shops and only got them through E.Bay. I can't actually tell you how much they are in shops (if you are lucky enough to find any, please let me know!!). The sets add extra variety, more stories and activities as well as extra items. When you put a new outfit on her, you have to change the card in the back of her but this is simple and does not affect her programming.
Amazing Ally will go to sleep if she is left idle for a few minutes. This is like her being switched off but without losing the information. I really don't recommend her being switched off completely as it can take quite a while to re-program her.
I may not like Amazing Ally but she is a great friend for my daughter. They have lots to do but never fight. She's aimed at ages 6+ but my I'd say she was suitable for younger kids. At 4, my little girl understands how she works and what to do with her.
I'd certainly say Ally was worth the money. She may be a chatter box, but then what little girl isn't? A new best friend who can be popped away when she gets too much.
