I will admit I was an ebook cynic, how could anything replace the joy and feel of a real live book in your hands? The answer is, nothing can the kindle is a different and complimentary way to read.

I got mine for Christmas and have been using it regularly ever since, in fact I guess I read more now. I still read books yet I find the kindle fantastic, especially for the amount of free e books you can download legally! There a dizzying wealth of classics out there.

The kindle is brilliant for taking out and on holiday, it really is feather light yet it doesn't feel too light or insubstantial in your hands. Reading is easy, the page forward and back buttons become second nature after a while, and learning to navigate and organise collections is easy; the on screen kindle users guide being helpful and easily accessible should you need it. Changing the font size is also easy.

The only down side with usability is the lack of a keyboard, granted that 99% of the time you have no need for one this is not a big issue, but typing out a long name or book title to search the kindle store can be tedious for the impatient!

Buying books is easy, perhaps too easy, with 1click and the ability to buy from amazon via the kindle or computer it is very easy to go on a spending spree! Dowloading and installing books from non amazon sources, such as gutenburg and many book.net which have vast libraries of free legal ebook is trickier but still easy. You simply drag and drop the file onto the kindle from your desktop, plugging the kindle in with the usb wire supplied. Or if you have a lot of books you can download a e reader library software such as , Calibre, which also backs up your purchases for you and converts from formats such as .pdf or plain text into the kindle .mobi format.

Using these methods I have built up a library of books that will take me years to read!
