For my birthday in October this year, my wife decided to buy me an Amazon Kindle. Mind you, I had been saying for months that I thought it would be an excellent idea and save me having to build more shelves at home to house my books. Anyway all that aside, I am very pleased with it and got far more than I expected on this little 8 by 5.5 inch gadget. I have read many e-books before on my computer screen but come late afternoon/early evening, particularly in the winter-time, I would have close my curtains to stop the sunlight shining on to my screen and I found it was quite tiring on the eyes ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic ereader, great layout for ebooks and whispersync works a treat

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very light so easily loosable.

For Christmas my partner bought me a Kindle, I was, and still am so excited that I got one. It's a fantastic way of reading, and certainly makes life so much easier. What Is It? The Kindle is an E-reader, which is a device for reading electronic books (also known as e-books) on the go. They are exactly the same as real books but obviously digital and can be read on many different devices. They are usually a lot cheaper than the physical book form, plus there's lots of free ones out there too. Also with plenty of storage on the different models it means you can have lots of books on the Kindle ... more

Anyone who says an e-reader spells the death of literature is talking nonsense. Books are words and Amazon's Kindle gives you the same words, only in a different format. I sampled a few works with Kindle for PC before getting the actual Kindle, to see what the volumes looked like on a screen. I was sold! I opted for the £111 basic model (works in range of a wi-fi connection) rather than the 3G which operates in a similar way to a mobile phone and costs £47 more. I reckoned I'd load any books I wanted before going on away and you don't need to be connected to the web to read. Even on the non-3G ... more

Advantages Advantages easy of use, saves loads of kilos when travelling, saves loads of time when doing research

Disadvantages Disadvantages battery life very meagre, too fragile for real life out there

Let me be honest from the onset: I am a book lover, and have been for most of my life. I love the feel and smell of paper, and I think books are an asset to any interior decorator's arsenal of doing a good job. Real books, I mean. With a spine and a cover - something that you can touch and see. Let’s face it: one of the best ways to get to know a stranger who’s invited you to his or her home, is to browse through their shelves. I have not yet dared ask the owner of an e-reader to allow me a look inside his gadget. It has taken me quite a lot of time to decide to buy a Kindle. When I did so, it ... more

Advantages Advantages 256 MB worth of books and text files, fast and easy to use, very portable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesn't display numbers, no backlight.

In my opinion, Amazons' Kindle is great.I hadn't been reading for a while because of studying but when I got this product for myself on my birthday, I got right back into reading. The main reason was because it was always there. A book is harder to take to places, harder to remember where you've left off and hard to see how far into the book you have read. With the Kindle you can take it anywhere, read it anywhere and put it down without worrying about losing your page. It doesn't even have to be used for books, I use text files that I have to read, for example balance sheets, CV's and lots of ... more
