Review of "Amazon.co.uk Marketplace"
If you're like me and you have boxes and boxes of old books, cd's and videos and want rid, forget the boot market option, you will be lucky if you can cover the cost of your pitch by the time the regular car booters have rifled through your goods. instead have a butchers at www.amazon.co.uk, there you will find their marketplace for sellers.The site offers a facility to upload details of your undesirables in order to find a buyer. So how does this work? well first of all you have to become a member (no surprise there then!), fill in all your details, including your bank account number. Then your ready to rock and roll.
The easiest way I have found to use this site is to search for the product you are looking for. Because amazon has such comprehensive stocks and database they will undoubtably already have the details. For example I want to sell my book 'A Child Called It' so I type in a the title, or if you want to be clever the ISBN number and details of this book will come up. You will then be told how much the price is on amazon and also given the choice to sell your copy of the book second hand.You decide you want to proceed, click on the link, and you will be asked to comment on the condition of the book, is it like new, very good condition, a bit frayed round the edges etc. Once you have described the condition you will be asked to name your price, they will suggest a price but it's normally on the high side so I would say use your judgement. Once completed you just click on the link to add your listing.
Now we get to the fun part, you have a buyer!!.You will recieve an e.mail telling you that someone has purchased your item. Amazon takes payment from the buyer and automatically bills them for posting and packaging. Posting fees are as follows..
BOOKS = £3.32
CD'S = £1.00
VIDEO'S = £1.10
You sell a product at the price of £ 7.99
They add posting and packaging @ £1.00
They deduct 15% which in this case is £1.95
Not bad is it, but then you have to dispatch the goods, which realistically in the above example (a cd) is going to cost you around 60p so you've made £6.44!!!What you have to consider is how much you would get for that at a car boot!! I would suggest rather less.
Anyone can sell stuff on amzon marketplace provided they have a bank account and e.mail address. Funds accrued will be transfered to your account every two weeks.The only problem I have found with this site is that it can take a while to figure out how to keep track of your listings (you can have up to 30 at any one time), the navigation is not that simple on this site. That said it's my only gripe, the backup and suport is top notch and I've never had any problems whatsoever.
(As I've been writing this I've just recieved an e.mail saying I have a buyer for a cd that I listed, so it really does work!!)Please note that if you do get a buyer, you will be expected to dispatch the goods within two working days, which is reasonable!!
Once you have succesfully sold your items, the buyers have the option to rate you as a seller, according to how fast your delivery was, was it well packaged etc, this will serve to encourage more people to buy from you.So what are you waiting for, get rid of all that junk and earn yourself a few quid.
