Advantages Inviting, helpful, good site layout
Disadvantages Not the cheapest for certain things
The entire amazon company is probably one of the best know, most used and most visited websites on the internet. It was one of the first major companies to sell goods over the net and was one of the companies that survived the dot com bubble burst of the late 90's.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon.com, Inc. in 1994, and went online the following year. At first it was just selling books, but soon started to sell video tapes, CD's, video games and, eventually, DVD's. Now it has websites for the UK (which I'll be reviewing here), Japan, Germany, France and China. When you get to the front page, you'll notice that is very inviting. Lots of bright colours set on a white background makes the site look very clear. It doesn't feel cluttered though, even though there is a lot to look at, everything is well organized. From here you can choose from a wide variety of things to look at or purchase, from books and DVD's to jewelery, tools and shoes.
Each section has a lot of helpful information. There are links to any offers there currently are, and on the left there are different sub-sections to find what you're looking for quicker. There are also trailers for various products and the top sellers for the section you're in, so you can see what's popular today. There is also a hot pre-orders list, so you can check out what's coming out in the not too distant future.Clicking on a specific product will give you more information, depending on what your product actually is, but things like it's sales rank and release date are universal. There are reviews from different amazon users which can be helpful if you're not sure something is right for you and can give you information on what it's actually like to live with the product. There's also an option for a wish list, so you can keep a list of things you want to buy later, which saves a lot of time keeping everything into one compact list instead of having to look around the whole site when you actually want to buy more than one thing.
I've been ordering from amazon.co.uk for years now, and from what I can remember I've only had one thing arrive late, which I e-mailed amazon about and they gave me a £5 gift voucher. I would recommend it as a very safe, secure site to use.The prices are very good but sometimes you can get things cheaper elsewhere, but it's usually not a huge amount of money. Overall a very good site to use with a good layout, lots of helpful information and a myriad of items to choose from.
