Both my mother and I have been using Amazon for years. They sell a huge amount of items - pretty much anything you can imagine actually! The amount of items they have to offer is amazing - from food to baby products to makeup, books, electronics... How convenient is it to do all your online shopping in one place?
The website looks a little cluttered to me... there is always a lot on one page but it's usually easy to get to where you want to go. There is a search bar at the top of the page and also a list of categories which makes it easy to find what you're looking for. With the addition of Amazon Marketplace, it can be a bit hard to identify what products are sold by Amazon themselves and which are sold from 3rd party/"Marketplace" sellers that some people might feel uncomfortable purchasing from.
The pricing on Amazon is very hit and miss. Some items are a lot cheaper than their competitors and some are more expensive. The prices also fluctuate quite a lot - I've seen a £34.99 item go down to half price and back up again in a few days! It's definitely worth comparing prices with other sites before assuming something is cheapest on Amazon. Upon searching for an item, you will often come across a single item with various prices. This is because Amazon have a marketplace where other businesses can sell their items at different rates to Amazon themselves, and sometimes they are much cheaper than Amazon themselves. Watch out though, as, unlike Amazon themselves, they can charge high postage rates, whereas Amazon offer free delivery on most items as long as you place an order of £10 or more. Cheap items are classed as 'add on items' which can be quite annoying if you just want one cheap item.
I find it easy to use the checkout page and have never had any issues with it. When you register, it saves your address and card details to make checking out very fast and easy. You can store more than one address on it too which is useful if you want something delivered to a friend or family member, your workplace or any other address.
I personally really like Amazon as their prices are generally very good compared to other leading websites, their delivery is usually reliable and fast, ordering items is easy and secure and they have a massive range of items to choose from. However, the feature I like the most is Amazon Prime which offers you unlimited next day delivery on thousands of items for £50 a year. However, if an item is late for whatever reason, you get your Prime membership extended by a month! I've had over half a year added to my membership for items that took a few days to arrive rather than next day - usually from those Marketplace sellers. Amazon themselves are usually faultless.
Their customer service is excellent and hassle free to deal with. You have a variety of options to choose from when contacting them - email, phone and online chat. The online chat is what I usually go with for speed and ease of use. Amazon are always willing to sort out problems and I've never had any issues with getting faulty items refunded or replaced.
A minor niggle is that they don't accept Paypal which is quickly becoming the norm nowdays, but as you can transfer money from Paypal to your bank account easily it's not really a major flaw and Amazon are obviously doing very well for themselves without offering it!
