.
As I've mentioned in previous op., we have one of those kids pools in our garden that is just big enough - at a push - for adults to swim in.
With the wonderful weather we've had lately I've had every child in the neighbourhood in at some point, plus two strapping sons and hubby. So I thought I ought to buy some aftersun to go with the numerous SPF creams I have on hand,to cool the burning bodies.
In my local Superdrug I grabbed some Ambre Solaire which I've bought before for holidays. It was on offer at £4.99 for a tube containing 150ml. Think it's £6.99 at Boots.
It was in the usual blue aftersun container favoured by many different manufacturers.
It wasn't until I got home that I saw that it wasn't any bog standard after sun that I'd bought, but a tan maintainer.
It promised to soothe and moisturise which is what I'd bought it for, and to enhance a natural tan and contained glycerol plus vitamin E and a self tanning agent.
This wasn't what I'd intended to buy (always seem to do my shopping in a rush and get the first thing to come to hand) but it was aftersun so I thought I would stick with it.
On the back of the tube is the question "is after sun tan maintainer right for you" with the answer "yes, if your skin has been exposed to the sun, after sun helps prolong and intensify your tan".
It states it contains low levels of a self tanning ingredient which subtly deepens and enhances tan so it lasts longer.
It promises to hydrate the skin, sooth and moisturise to prevent peeling.
Advises to use on clean skin, avoid eyebrows and hairline and wash hands after application.
Use daily during the first week and once or twice a week thereafter.
As the sun seems to reflect off me and I never get a tan, I was a bit disappointed in my choice of aftersun. I've also deliberately bought some of these low level tanning agent things and they've had no effect at all.
My attempts at fake tans have always been disastrous so I felt resigned to being pale and interesting.
However, I've applied the after sun to those more blessed than me, who already have tans and they agreed it smelled pleasant and cooled and moisturised well.
As I've been on lifeguard duty for much of the week to prevent little dears from drowning one another, I've got extremely hot, but not burnt, but after bathing later in the day, I've rubbed the Ambre Solaire on instead of my usual body lotions, in the hope of cooling down.
The tan maintainer has a pleasant smell, rubs in well and leaves the skin feeling very soft.
After using for the first time I noticed the next day that I had assumed a more healthy hue. My milk bottle white legs had changed subtley and were no longer day glo white but actually had a hint of colour.
I've used it several times now and though by no means have I acquired a deep tan I do actually look as though I have a hint of colour with the advantage of no orange ankles and streaks associated with all the fake tans I've tried.

...Kos, Greece.
I bought Garnier Amber Solaire moisturising protection spray and Garnier Amber Solaire After Sun hydrating tan maintainer. The packaging has changed slightly so I've included a picture of the actual one I bought.
This after sun claims to "hydrate skin and intensify suntan". It is suitable for the face and body being both non-greasy and non-sticky. The back of the tube reads "Is hydrating tan maintainer right for me? Yes, if your skin ... ...keep me topped up.
Garnier claim that this product is dermatologically tested which should mean that it is skin compatible although cosmetic research institutes have yet to agree on a definition for this so I can not comment on how sensitive skins might react to use.
Things I didn't like:
All I can really moan about was the packaging. It's made for all over body use but the tube makes despensing smaller amounts for the face a little tricky. As ...

***My Experience***
This product sounded great. It worked okay as an after sun, the rather runny lotion was fairly easily absorbed into your skin and didn't leave a sticky residue, plus the scent wasn't unpleasant and not too overpowering or girlie. My skin always felt nice and smooth after use.
One 150ml bottle lasted the two of us approximately 5 days (we ended up using nearly 3 bottles during the 2 week holiday)
It's ...

...Sun Tan Maintainer.(Now known as Garnier Ambre Solaire)
I purchased my 150ml tube from Sainsbury's, it was on a special offer at just 5.99 GBP. (normally retails at between 6.99 and 7.50). On the back of the tube it does ask if this product is right for you ? It advises that it is ideal if your skin needs rehydrating and if you want to prolong and 'intensify' your suntan. It has been especially devised to rebalance and rehydrate overheated skin....Yep ... ...information about garnier and associated products can be obtained from their helpline:

Advantages: Enhances and boosts your natural tan Disadvantages: Own brand copies - they are not anywhere near as good
I cannot believe l am about to give away my tanning enhancing secret which l have kept quite about for the last 2 years not even telling my closest friends!! Ciao readers consider yourselves very lucky!!
Ambre Solaire After Sun Tan Maintainer comes in a 500ml tub and can be found at the usual outlets - Boots, Superdrug, Tescos etc - its also available from online pharmacists also who stock sun products. It costs approximately £6.49 and is worth ... ...Tescos own brand which is cheaper - it does not work like the Ambre Solaire.
So why is this product sooo fabulous? Well apart from moisturising your skin after you have spent a hard day sun bathing it also contains 1-2% of a false tan that develops over time. It helps enhance your natural colour - boosting if you like!! It is especially good if you do find it hard to develop a decent colour! It does not streak but l would advise just to err on the ...

Advantages: subtle tan and cheap. Disadvantages: can streak if not applied properly
I purchased this originally because it was on offer at superdrug for £3.49, which is half price and had read about products like this in magazines, which help you keep that healthy suntanned glow. I started using this product after my first days sunbathing and found it made my skin sooo smooth unfortunately I had applied a little too much because the next day I was a little streaky around the bottom of my feet and now realise that you should treat ... ...(and wash your hands afterwards!) But now I apply it correctly I found that it really works I know I’m not really this brown but people at work don’t and that is all due to this product.
The Product
