So, last weekend was probably one of the hottest of the year so far according to me. I didn't actually realise how hot it was at the time of course so avoiding putting on suntan lotion. However, I later regretted this when I got home, after hours of sunbathing. I noticed my arm was bright red as were my cheeks and nose. I didn't have any after sun at home unfortunately at the time so I was made to live out my daily life in humiliation with a bright red nose.
The first thing I did when I had the time to do so was run into Tesco and get some kind of after sun. The Ambre Solaire one was on offer so I bought it and ran home. The bottle is quite nice a light blue colour and this is relevant as it is a soother. It has a secure top that you snap open and the typical Garnier logo. It is a hydrating
milk which to me sounded good because I can't stand these sticky creams for after sun that just don't loose the greasiness.
So, what it aims to do is soothe and rehydrate every 12 hours. It has cactus extract which to me didn't sound very cooling but I was so desperate for the redness to go down. I found it quite useful that on the back of the bottle it has some answered questions. It claims to be non-sticky and non-greasy and to be easily absorbed. It is meant to rebalance the skin that has been dehydrated and over-heated. It all sounded very promising and so I put it to the test.
I would say you only need to put on a little on each section because a small drop seems to easily cover the whole area. It is a cream which is not of a thick consistency and so is easy to rub into the skin. It is very cooling at first and also has a refreshing cucumber like smell. I found it absorbed really quickly and although it took a couple of minutes to properly dry it seemed to cool the areas that were really hot.
So, did it work? Well I applied it twice every day because my skin was REALLY red. After day one my face was back to its usual colour, well of course it was slightly more tanned but no longer did I look stupid with my bright red nose. My arms after a longer period of time maybe 3 days went down a lot and were no longer boiling hot. They are now a deep dark tanned colour and you would never know they had been badly sunburnt.
The bottle recommends that you apply the after sun every day to clean skin but I would say twice a day is probably better for quicker effects.
The after sun contains karate butter and certain plant extracts such as aloe vera and one thing I was really impressed by was the fact that I had no peeling. With most after sun I usually still have to go through the horrible peeling process. With this after sun I didn't have to deal with it at all so the skin was healthy and just turned right into the tan.
The bottle is 200ml in size and should last for quite a long time. I didn't need to use a lot and I got my skin back to normal. I agree on it soothing the skin because it really does and every day you notice the progress. The only thing that some might disagree on is the non-stickiness. At first it does seem really light but on touching the skin I would still say it wasn't completely soft but slightly sticky.
Not being someone who usually uses Garnier products I was really impressed with this product. In the past a lot of my after suns have been really greasy and also they have not seemed to cool down the skin but sting it. I tried using moisturiser on my skin after returning home from the sun but it just doesn't work after sun is definitely what you have to use as it cools down the skin instantly.
I would say this product should be used anytime you are exposing yourself to the sun. A lot of the time when going out in the sun I am unaware of how red I am actually getting so this just helps the skin gain back all of its moisture that was lost. It is dermatologically tested but all ingredients are listed on the back of the bottle so that you can check if you are allergic to any.
So I went and bought my after sun at Tesco which cost £2.99 and I don't think that was too expensive as Garnier is a good brand especially for skin products. Also 200ml is a good size. I'm sure this product is available at all good supermarkets or Boots branches.
For more information on Garnier products visit the website at http://www.garnierbeautybar.co.uk/_en/_gb/ . It has all of the sun products listed and it is easy to navigate. AmbreSolaire also has a mini site. It shows how to apply the after sun and information on how it is used and what is included in the product.

Lucky you that you didnt peel.... i'm paranoid of burning... so usually use a high enough sun cream that allows me to tan without any burning.... But i like the idea of replenishing the moisture b/c my skin does feel dry after sun exposure sometimes! x

Good review - I just can't believe you sat in the sun without any sun protection on. Alexandra x
