I used to have rice pudding all the time when i was a kid, but i have not had it for years! I decided to pick some up on my weekly shop the other week and see if it was still as nice as i remember!
I picked up an ambrosia tin of creamy rice pudding. This cost me about 75p, i saw supermarkets own brands of this cheaper but i thought as a treat i will buy the leading brand.I tried this rice pudding as a dessert one night after tea. It doesnt require any cooking which is good, especially when you cant be bothered after work! You can eat this straight from the tin, but i cant stand this cold! I always heat mine up, and you can do this either in the microwave for a few minutes, or like i do on the hob for about 5 minutes heating it gently.
This rice pudding is just how i remembered it! I like it piping hot, and it is really creamy and the rice is really soft. You dont really have to chew this desert! It was not too thick or runny, it was just the right consistency.I am not too keen on rice pudding all on its own, as it gets a bit too bland after a few spoofuls. I always add jam, or melted chocolate which is gorgeous! It just adds a little bit of extra flavour to it and makes it a really nice tasty desert! You can also sprinkle sugar over it, or add honey or syrup. These make it really sweet tasting and i couldnt eat it without added something to sweeten it!
A serving contains 210 calories, and if you do add jam or honey etc, this is going to make it even more high in calories! This desert if not healthy for you, but it is nice as a treat. It is so easy to make and now i always have a few of these stocked up in my cupboard! You can get this rice pudding in a low fat version, a serving of this contains 193 calories, so not really much difference! I didnt pick the low fat version as it didnt really seem much healthier, only 17 calories per serving difference and i didnt want to risk the taste being different for just 17 less calories!
This rice pudding is free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.Overall, this rice pudding is absolutely delicious, i dont know if i want to try a cheaper brand or not! This product is highly recommended!
