Advantages Advantages Battery or mains powered and pumps both breasts at once

Disadvantages Disadvantages Awkward main body which affects portability.

It arrives as a sturdy hard plastic base unit, with two dangerous looking stems in which the bottles are supposed to rest, and two dials, one to control the frequency of the vacuum and one to control the strength of the vacuum, these mimic the natural sucking rhythm of a baby. Into one side you can plug in a mains adaptor, although you can choose to use batteries to make it more portable (6 AAs). On the other side there are two tubes which plug into the side which have plastic disks on the end, which clip into two rubber inserts (which remind me of those canisters you get 35mm film in). Advantages Advantages can express both sides at once, can work on batteries, gets a lot of milk out

Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy, didn't wear well, heavy on battery usage, delicate, can hurt

I went back to work for the odd day when my son was 5 weeks old, part-time from 3 months, and full-time when he was 5 months old. I wanted to make sure I could continue to feed him only breastmilk. I bought this pump when my son was about 6 weeks old. I used it for 2.5 months altogether. It's not bad, but there are a lot of things I wasn't that happy about overall, and I replaced it with an Avent IQ Duo which is much, much better. The Lactaline looks quite flimsy. It has a base unit that holds the batteries, and into which you can plug the mains lead. There are two stands on top for the ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, comfortable, durable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of portability, not very hands free, noisy, limited power, expensive parts

I bought this before I had my second son; as I had some problems breastfeeding my first son and used the hospital grade pump made by the same company to great success. I thought; as they claim this would be a home version of that pump, same power, only smaller. I was wrong; it is a lot less powerful than the hospital one; in fact it creates less suction than a hand pump and the fastest vacuum cycle isn't very fast either. The motor unit is quite heavy and although there are 'rests' for the bottles it is impossible to control the dials while using it; unless you get one of those bras made for ... more

Advantages Advantages Suction strength and speed can be adjusted separately; double pump

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly pricier than a basic single pump

I had serious difficulties in the early days of breastfeeding because my son had a tongue-tie. This meant I had to express a lot of milk for him. I was still breastfeeding when I returned to work when he was 8 months old and needed to express milk efficiently at work too. Over the last year I have used 7 different breastpumps, including three different hospital-grade pumps, a hand pump and single electric pumps manufactured by another company. I have also tried hand expressing. This is the best of the bunch I tried. The key feature that makes it so good for me is the fact that you can adjust ... more
