...nine million Iraqis voted in free elections some risking their lived to do so and yet despite pleas by many Iraqis left wingers political activists in the liberal West abandoned their ideological comrades, made excuses for the 'insurgents' (or more accurately terrorists) who were in part supported by of oppressive middle eastern dictatorships such as Iran and Syria and for the larger part were made up of Baathist supporters of Saddam. The thinking seemed to be that any ideological enemy of America however bad they were had some moral and political justification is murdering innocent Iraqis and trying defeat the beginnings of a representative democracy in the new Iraq.
According to Cohen this muddled thinking on the part of the liberal left didn't start with Iraq it goes back further even in Afghanistan the opposition led by lefty liberals...

Advantages: Solid and picks up pace Disadvantages: A bit short
...are doing so in even bigger ways, and I found it somewhat surprising that he lacked of appreciation for the ironies that seemed to pop up quite often and bite him on the backside.
Completely absent of the schmaltzy "god bless America" stuff that dragged the film down, this is a good read. I read it in less than 24hrs which isn't bad as my copy (Bought very inexpensively from good ole Amazon) is 321 pages long. The only other book by David Brin I've read is Glory Season, which was better in my opinion....

The extended Thorne family is made up of the father Gerald, now widowed, and his two children Elliot and Stephanie. Elliot is married to Isabelle and they have a teenage daughter, Taylor. However, Elliot has been having an affair with Kellie, who is staying in a hotel on the mainland, where hopefully Elliot will be able to visit if he gets the opportunity! Stephanie is married to David with whom they now only have two children since their son Paul died in a tragic accident eighteen months ago.
So you can see that potentially all is not well in the Thorne household and tensions are brewing nicely for Christmas. Isabelle's attempts to take over the house do not go down well with Stephanie who is already under enormous strain to be cheerful because it is Christmas. Taylor, with her friend...
