PRELUDE (skip this part if you dont have the time)...
Getting sick of use supermarket mens hair styling products I decided to try American Crew Fiber. I have very thick hair (I am asian - Indian Origin) which tends to stick out and fuzz if cut short.
Hair Wax gave me a greasy look and gel made my hair crusty and look like straw. So I was in search of a product that gave me a natural clean finish that gave good hold.
You can only buy Amerian Crew online or from salons so dont go looking for it in your local shop. I paid £7.99 online for a 100ml tub.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS ...
The tub is a 'puck' (ice hockey) sized plastic container with a screw lid that just oozes 'quality'.
The product itself is a light creamy yellow colour and has a hard/medium consistancy (like solid fudge).
The smell is quite exceptional and I like it VERY much, difficult to describe but words like 'creamy, lemon and coconut' spring to mind and isn't over powering like some strong gels I've smelt. (You cant smell it once you've applied it).
APPLYING THE PRODUCT...
I cannot stress enough how important it is to apply this product correctly otherwise you wont achieve the look you want and will be wasting your money.
Towel dry your hair so all the water has been soaked up. Take a pea sized amount of the product (I intially had to use my finger nail to scoop some out as you have to dig out the product of the tub as it were !).
IMPORTANT NEXT STEP! - rub the product between your palms to emulsify it otherwise you will end up with 'bits' of the cream in your hair that wll show up if you have dark hair.
Starting from the crown/back of the head work the stuff into your hair moving to the front. You have to work the product quickly as the consistancy of it changes after rubbing it in your palms from silky and creamy to sticky (and you could end up ripping out your hair !). The product amazingly comes off your hands easily and you dont even need to wash them as it leaves little or no residue ! (so is very clean).
RESULT...
A textured, matt finish and doesn't get greasy no matter how much of the stuff you apply, which is good as I need more than usual (2-3 pea sized) amounts to tame my hair. Once styled you dont need to touch your hair for the rest of the day as it is pretty strong stuff.
Best of all your hair looks non greasy, natural, soft to touch (unlike crusty gel) & generally neat or chopped/textured depending on how you style it !
This stuff should last a long time for someone with normal hair it does a fantastic job and holds the style better and cleaner than common supermarket texturising gum/fiber. To top it off it also washes out easily !
If you dont mind paying for a quality product that gives good natural hold this is the stuff for you.
