American Crew Firm Hold Gel

I began using American Crew products when I visited my new barbers regularly. They had the range in their window and at the hair cutting stations so I decided to give it a go. Obviously, you are usually always better off shopping around and not paying salon prices and so my hunt began online. Once I had found the product that I felt suited my needs - the American Crew Firm Hold Gel I found it to be widely available for under a tenner for a 250ml bottle. I also found it for £18 for a litre, but I bought it in the regular 250ml bottle for ease of use and to give it a try.

American Crew Firm Hold Gel comes in a bottle with a black cap and the product inside is a brown colour. You might be reading this and thinking that is off-putting but it didn't deter me as I have used a wide range of colours before. ASdmittedly I have bought cheap 49p gel in the past and they are generally bright blue or green, so the colour didn't put me off one bit.

From just looking at the packaging and the wording on the bottle i could tell this wasn't some cheap supermarket sold hair gel. When I remove the cap the first thing I notice is quite a subtle pine scent. Once applied I don't find the scent overpowering at all, which is what you want really because you don't want to cancel out the expensive aftershave you may be wearing!

The gel itself is easy to apply, there isn't really much to say about the consistency etc. due to it being just what you would expect from gel. The performance of a hair gel, especially its longevity, is the main reason I would continue using a particular brand. The gel will last a full day if needed, although I prefer to reapply if I am wearing it through the day and then going out in the evening. I wouldn't say the gel is really firm. It does a great job at holding my hairstyle in place, but it doesn't give the same effect as very cheap gels give. That is, it has some movement which is always good.

I would always say that you are best washing your hair before going to bed due to the gel coming off on your pillow/bedwear and this is never a good thing! With cheap gels you can usually just run your hands through your hair and it will flake off, but this American Crew gel doesn't do that. This is the sign of a better quality hair product and there is nothing worse than someone running their hands through your hair leaving a dandruff look!

It could be said that the price is quite high for a hair gel, but I think if you are looking for something to use for nights out etc. then it is well worth a look. It can be worn every day, but I don't always gel my hair each day. Giving a superb hold at the same time as offering some natural movement the American Crew Firm Hold Gel has to recieve 5 stars. The price is competitive in comparison to other top brands, just avoid buying in those salons!
