In a departure from my usual "ops" whence i quite like to heap praise upon the product that i am surreptisouly reviewing, the "American Express Green" credit card is going to inspire nothing but vitriolic hatred, as though i was spurting bile from my stomach onto the very face of the managing director of a company who has made my life a living breathing hell by his insistence that these cards do not actually swipe owing to them being manufactured from a supposedly enviromentally friendly plastic. The problem with this?
IT INSULATES THE METAL BARCODE THAT HOLDS MINE AND DOUBTLESSLY YOUR CREDIT INFORMATION. THIS MAKES ME SICK.
Countless times i have faced what i like to refer to as the "call of shame", the assistant in any number of my favourtite shops rings my bank and i am forced to stand there, agonisingly blushing, feeling sick and embaressed and hating the fact that the credit card company i have chosen are so stupidly enviromentally concerned and so willing to bow to pressure groups that they do this to ME! Its about time that they realised that it is US, the "real" customers that matter, the "people on the street" not these faceless consumer pressure groups who are doubtless ageing bohemian types, with no idea of the realities of the real world. Just the other day i was at the town hall, looking at the registers, just to check who exactly was eligable to vote, when i tried to copy this information, by using my card, i recieved the most disgusting look of contempt i have ever had bestowed upon me. The clerk was mortified that myself, a respected citezan and someone intersted as i was in eligibality to vote could come face to face with such cowardice, such shamefaced lack of concern from my credit card company. Well i say this. American Express Get some HUMAN DECENCY Abondon your GreenCard. And Abondon it quick, before others go through my "town hall torment".

Advantages: Snob Value/ No Credit Limit/ Travel Insurance and much much more! Disadvantages: £225 fee/ By invitation only
I started out with AmericanExpress on the standard Green Card. After a year I was upgraded to Gold, then six months later Platinum!
The card is one of the most prestigious and powerful cards in the world. I have had some looks of sheer amazement from people at the checkouts. I used it in Debenhams, and was instantly aproved for a Debenhams account, no questions asked.
Apart from the obvious snob value and the limited numbers of these cards in existence, it has temendous practical advantages. At first glance, the annual fee of £225 looks a bit hefty. But this includes all year round travel insurance for yourself, whether or not you book travel on the card. The cover also applies to those you decide to issue with supplementary cards on your account. The supplementary cards are free of charge. Other benefits include free ...
Advantages: er, prestige? Disadvantages: High annual fee, not accepted in lots of places
About two years ago I received a letter from AmericanExpress inviting me to apply for their Green Card. If I did, they wouldn't charge the annual fee for the first year. I already had a Blue card (don't often use it, though) and was quite happy with it, so I applied for the Green and was accepted.
First, the good points.
The application was accepted quickly and the card arrived. It's a nice looking card! A kind of transparant green. I will be honest and say that I felt quite privileged to carry it.
I made my first purchase without any problems, a DVD Player from Richer Sounds. They accepted the card, no problem. I made no other purchases and then got a shock as my first statement also hit be for £32.50 for joining!!! Two telephone 'conversations' and a letter eventually got my fee back but I wasn't happy.
This card is a charge ...
