The American Express Red card is pretty much like your typical Amex card: it has the typical 'snob' value but every time you spend on the card, Amex donates money to the Global Fund against AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Here's my low down: -Compared to other Amex cards, the typical 16.9% APR is pretty good. Of course compared to other cards its not brilliant but its still competitive. -Acceptance can be sparse at times, even in the United States! The only place I have been able to use this is department stores, the internet and Sainsbury's..... Whilst on holiday in Texas, all the big department stores welcomed the American Express Red with open arms. On the other hand, independent stores wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. -Every time you spend money on the card, American Express donate 1% back to the Global Fund against AIDS, TB and Malaria. If you spend over £5,000 in year, they donate 1.25%. So, not only do you have fun shopping, you can also help 'save the world!' On a more serious note, if you want to earn cashback for yourself, then get a different card. But if you want to make a tiny difference then the Amex Red certainly helps -When I applied, American Express expected a minimum yearly salary of £20,000. So I guess only apply, if you have the income to match. -Has a certain 'cool' factor
Overall, apart from the sometimes sparse acceptance; the American Express Red donates an amount of money that probably makes a big difference somewhere in the world. Plus, being the Amex Red, I think it looks pretty cool and iconic.
