Firstly an introduction to the game for all of you that don’t know what this game is about. Americas Army Operations is an online multiplayer game designed for recruits of Americas Army.
Once you have registered a user, you start your training. You have to complete the four basic training sections to be able to play AAO. There the rifle range, where you have to hit 23 out of 40 targets to pass the level. Then it’s the obstacle course, which is pretty basic. Then the advanced weapons stage, where you learn how to deploy an m203 grenade launcher and throw fragmentation, flash and smoke grenades. The last stage, of training is a hostage situation in a building, where the terrorists and hostages are cardboard cut-outs and you have to work your way through the level killing the terrorists without injuring the hostages. When you have completed these four, you can now start playing the game. Or can you? After completing the four basic training modules, you can then either go and start playing, or you can start some advanced
training. There’s sniper training, but to enrol in this you need to complete the rifle range with a score of 36 out of 40. Once you complete the sniper training, you can then use the sniper rifle, so you can engage the enemy at a safer distance. There’s also parachute training, you need this to play on a certain level. Then there’s medic training, you learn about three different aspects of a medics job, the are tested on them, once you pass them, there’s the final medic training, where you have to heal 3 people in order of priority.
Once you have completed all the training, you can play and use all levels and weaponry.
Once you have selected a level you want to play, you have to choose between defence and assault, but no matter which you choose you’ll always be the US Army.
Once you have selected your team, you can choose your squad position by the weapon you choose, as long as no-one else has chosen it before you. The weaponry available depends on the level and sometimes how many people have joined your team yet. If your team is full, the all weaponry for the level will be available. For instance, if you choose the Pipeline level, which the objective is to defend an oil facility from terrorists, or remove the terrorists from it if you’re on assault, then the weapon selection is as follows.
R – Squad Leader – m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades. R – Alpha Team Leader – m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
R – Rifleman - m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
G – Grenadier - m203 grenade launcher and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
AR – Rifleman - m249 Assault Rifle, and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
R – Bravo Team Leader – m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
R – Rifleman - m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.
R – Rifleman - m16 rifle and fragmentation, smoke and flash grenades.

The level gameplay is split up into 7 rounds, each round exactly the same, except players can come and go. Each round is 10 minutes long.
On some levels however sniper rifles are available and some levels every position has the m16 rifle.
If you’re on defence your objective is to defend an area(s). The easiest way to do this is kill any enemy that crosses your path. Although you could wait for the time to run out a swell, but since you get points for killing enemies then the killing option is the best one. If your assault, you have to complete objectives. You can do this by killing all defence, or for instance the Pipeline level, assaults objectives are to seize the main control panel, or shut down all three valves. This means there are three ways to complete this level with assault, the two mentioned and killing any opposition.
If you kill one opposition soldier, you earn 10 points, then you also get points if you live throughout the whole round (no matter what the outcome you get some points), more if you complete your objectives alive, even if you are dead and your team wins, you get some points. You start off with 10 honour. When you earn a 1000 points from your game, your honour level will increase by 1. Overall this is a fantastic original game.
