Review of "Amped 3 (Xbox 360)"
Amped 3 is one of the Xbox 360's launch titles but is it one of the better ones? We shall see..Gameplay:
When you first look at Amped 3 you may think it is just one of your typical snowboarding games, just another SSX you may say, well you are wrong. Amped 3 has its own unique playing style, yes the controls are similar to other snowboarding games, yes the moves are the same, but that is where the similarities end. Amped 3 puts you in the role of a young man in a snowboarding crew, and it starts you off in a giant pink bunny suit, strange I know. Anyway you need to go round the mountains, and I say mountains because there are about 8 mountains in total for you to explore, however they need to be unlocked by completing the story mode first. You need to complete various tasks on the mountains, from grinding challenges, to impressing sponsors. The control system in the game is really simple to use, you use the left analog stick to move and the A, B, X and Y buttons to perform tricks while the right analog stick lets you do flips and spins, these controls make it really easy to pick up and play but hard to master. If you get board of snowboarding then there is a nice little snow mobile that you can jump on to, this gives you a way of driving back up the mountain or just doing some fancy tricks with. One of the most fun parts of the game would have to be sledging down the mountain, you get a choice of about twelve different sledges and each is as fun as the other, from a toilet to a sofa, you can get some tremendous speeds with it and some spectacular crashed when you fly off. The only area in Gameplay that this game is lacking would be the way you collide with objects, some of the collision areas are not actually attacked to the object, so you could ride just past it but still somehow miss it.
Amped 3 does not have the best looking graphics, if you were to compare it to an original Xbox then yes there is still a large improvement, however if you were to compare it to one of its fellow Xbox 360 games, then you can see how a lot more could have been done to it. The character models have a good amount of detail, its just too bad you can not say that about the rest. The scenery is shabby and the terrain is of a low quality, this has to be one of the games weaker sides. One of the greatest things in Amped 3 however would have to be the cut scenes, they are funny, original and well some of them you just want to watch over and over again. They are not done in a normal way, they have been made to be unique, from little plastic toys running around, to anime cartoon style, they are all unique and just as funny as the last, the game is worth checking out even if it is just for the cut scenes.
Amped 3 does not have many sounds in it to tell the truth. The voice acting is good, but could be improved, the sound during the cut scenes however is of the top most quality and is far from dull. When you are just snowboarding down the hill there is not really much sound at all, there may be a little bit of music or a random scream from a bystander as you go past, but apart from that it is a pretty quiet game.
There is no online play with Amped 3 so this is a big downside to the game. The story mode is also pretty short, you could complete the story I a single sitting, however with over 1,200 other challenges Amped 3 will keep you occupied for a long time.
Well this game is an Xbox 360 exclusive and so there is only one console you can buy it on… the Xbox 360 for around £45.00.
