Top quality entry level Amp
Review of Rotel RA01 by andyyaris

Advantages: Value for money, excellent sound, bi wire abilty and upto 4 speakers
Disadvantages: plain looks if you like shiny things

This amplifer was my first introduction to the world of real hi-fi equipment and quite simply it was an absolute bargin. I have this connected to an NAD cd player and B&W 602 s2 speakers and it sounds fantastic. I find it produces very warm sounds with an excellent bass response. This may be an entry level amp and only rated at 40 watts but it has plenty of power, many other cheaper amp's my show more power, when it comes to it they loose clarity ...
...sony amp rated at 80 watts per channel) This amp really does benefit from high quality interconnectors, speaker cables and make sure they're fitted with gold plated bannana plugs, it really does make a difference. It looks quite plain and understated. When my hose was broken into this amp and cd player was left behind in favour of a £100 Awia system with lots of flashing lights. I would high reccomend this amp as after 3 years it is still producing ... Read review

Fantastic sound, but needs more features!
Review of Rotel RA 971 by atki5

Advantages: Perfect quality sound, great build
Disadvantages: Lacking in connectivity options

...technology to it. However, this is only to be expected, as Rotel could hardlyhave been expected to predict the future whilst making it! Overall, it has every feature that a normal stereo user could desire - but is perhaps a tad basic for the advanced users among you. ... Read review

Classy sounding hi-fi amp
Review of Rotel RA 920 AX by GrahamC2000

Advantages: beautiful sound
Disadvantages: Not the most powerful amp around but plenty more than enough

Classy sounding true hi-fi amp with well rounded low end and clear transparent top end. Very enjoyable musical sound that complimented all styles of music. Although I mostly used it for listening to indie/rock music I used to sneak on the occasional classical CD too. Owned and used this for 3 years and never disappointed. A well respected music industry AR man once visited my house and was amazed at the sound quality from my setup. 20 Watts RMS per ... Read review

Acoustic Solutions Amplifier SP101
Review of Acoustic Solutions SP100 by Art007

Advantages: Good quality, good value, attractive, multi-functional.
Disadvantages: You get a pathetic wire antenna for DAB/ Tuner

...the risk not knowing what Acoustic Solutions brand was like. So, now I have bought the DAB part of it and I think it's excellent. It has never broken down on me and I would recommend Acoustic Solutions to anybody. It is attractive but not overtly and looks and works as good as any Sony or expensive brand. Argos is pretty much the cheapest place to purchase it from as I did. The unit supports Phono, Tuner, Tape/Aux, CD, DVD and DAB. I believe you ... Read review

vintage classic British amplification from 1978
Review of Meridian 105 by subminiature

Advantages: sound quality, build quality, design
Disadvantages: lacks inputs, which used to be a problem, but isn't anymore

The Meridian 105 power ampliers come as two pairs of boxes, each channel is amp + power supply. I had went along to Graham's Hi-fi back in 1978 and they encouraged people to listen to their own equipment along side that which the sales assistant short listed for you. So I packed my Cambridge P80 and JR149 speakers and Transciptor Turntable. I had found the P80 lacking, when used with the JR149. First to note that when paired with a pair of Kef 104 ...
...was then replaced with the Meridian 104 and 105 mono power amps. This is the only time that the JR149 delivered it full potential, a huge difference in sound quality. Other speakers tested included the Linn Isobaks and I was hooked to finding what else was available at this level and price. Even 30 years on these vintage amplifiers are still in demand. They are compact for something of this quality. The matching 104 Tuner and 101B preamp are understated ... Read review
