Amstrad's Satellite Box for BSKYB
Review of Amstrad DRX 550 by  AndyGray2k7

Advantages: Good Picture and sound - See review!
Disadvantages: Remote control

...::::INTRODUCTION:::: Sky gave me this box when i signed up to sky multi-room. The box cost £49 with installation, but its free if your a first time subscriber and not getting multi-room! ::::CONNECTIONS:::: There are plenty of connections on this box by Amstrad... You can connect it up to surround sound, share the aerial feed and connect to a vcr or dvd recorder (standard stuff really). There slots to put your sky viewing card and interactive card (like a sky credit card) are stored away under a cover, which adds a nice style to the box. ::::Sound & Picture Quality:::: The sound and picture quality is just like my other sky (grundig) box, but sound and picture are slightly better as the Amstrad box has all the improved data chips and DVB certified stuff etc. The picture is nice on a SD Television, the detail is vibrant... Sky, just a bit faster
Review of Amstrad DRX 550 by  sjlwoods

Advantages: Fastest Standard Sky Box Around (July 06)
Disadvantages: Light up Sky logo on front panel

...I've had Sky Digital a few times since its launch in 1998. I used to have a Grundig Box, which was a fine box. It did the job without too much trouble, but eventually it expired. A friend then gave me his Amstrad DRX-100. I was surprised at just how slowly it ran. Three seconds just to change channels! When I signed a new contract for Sky Digital in June '06, I was given the Amstrad DRX-550. The first thing I noticed was when the box was plugged in, this Sky logo lit up on the front in blue. Okay, I was willing to accept this, a Sky logo when the box is turned on. But then I turned the box to standby and the logo faded up even brighter and then returned to the medium light setting. Great...so I've got a box that has a bright blue Sky logo on permanently. Once I got over the light up logo and started using the box, I... Read review

Amstrad was not for us
Review of BSkyB - Digital by  Shell

Advantages: channels for everyone
Disadvantages: Amstrad boxes

...We decided to upgrade to sky digital when the offer became available for £40 installation cost. That seems to have been our first mistake as we ended up with a dreaded Amstrad box! We had previously had analogue equipment and had subscribed to Sky for 5 years without any problems with either our equipment or Sky. Our luck then seemed to have run out. We took up the £40 offer with Sky themselves and they organised the delivery and installation of the new dish and box and we paid the fitter. Great we thought! We had the family package which cost £11.99 at the time and we recieved all of the channels which interested us such as: UK Gold - Old dramas and soaps Granada Plus - Old dramas and soaps Living - Talk Shows UK Style - Home and Garden programmes as well as all of the primary, discovery and music channels. I... Read review
