Review of Martin Amis - Martin Amis by juliebushnell

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Martin Amis - the under-rated master of contemporary fiction Amis is the most exciting writer alive today. His books are gritty and real, and his humour razor sharp. The Rachel Papers, my favorite of his books, is a classic 'loss of youth' tale that am I disgusted to not find listed on this site. He writes with such a no-holds-barred style then you can't help but admire his front. His books are important and relevant and are capable of shocking, amusing and moving you with the turn of a page. I would recommend any of Martin Amis's books.... Read review

Witty laugh-out-loud fun read for anyone!
Review of The Rise and Fall of a Yummy Mummy - Polly Williams by mummy2harry

Advantages: Funny, fab characters, easy to believe the characters
Disadvantages: Some scenes in London were a bit OTT

She recently had her second child, and her second novel has just been published, one I am eager to read! I must say, this book is just fantastic. It made me laugh out loud at some points, sympathise with the main character Amy. Amy recently gave birth to her daughter Evie, whom she adores, but everything is not rosy in her relationship with her partner Joe. Amy is sure... Read review

Dickens reborn
Review of London Fields - Martin Amis by SpikeIsland

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...In this novel Amis using his talents to build a Dickensian vision of a modern London. In fact, this book is probably exactly what Dickens would have written if he was alive today, although he would have made it twice as long just so it didn’t become too much fun. Amis build up a tale a round four key figures and uses the enticing lady figure to bring about the demise of all the others. Perhaps it is the fable about the destructive and compelling nature of the sexual urge. I really liked this book and I recommend, although it is not as good as Money by the same author....
