...The title of this humorous spin-off of the Harry Potter books is called ‘Barry Trotter and the shameless parody’ and is written by the author with a great sense of humour Michael Gerber. The genre of this book (for those who don’t know!) is a fictional parody based on the fictional Harry Potter books. The main plot of this hilarious book is that Barry Trotter is so important to Hogwash’s bottom-line that he is allowed to stay there for as long as he likes, It has been announced that a film is being made of J.G Rollins’ books and Bumblemore sends Barry and his friends on a mission to stop the film and it’s cheap merchandise being made.
This may all sound incredibly unusual, and it is, as there is many plot-twists and you have to read carefully to find out what is actually happening in the story as the plot changes dramatically...

Advantages: Great Book, Comprehensive, Easy To Read Once You Grasp The Basics Disadvantages: Need The Advanced Book For Year 2, Pricey.

Anyway, last year was very exciting, starting university again and I was promised I was the only girl on the course, but I'm not, but never mind, still 110 chaps to 5 ladies, still not a bad ratio!
OK, back to university, on enrolment, I was given a reading list, a list with about 40 books on it and I groaned, I couldn't afford those books with my measly student loan, they were £40-£50 each! I took the initiative and asked one of the lecturers what book would be the most essential for the year and he told me 'If you buy no other book, buy Barry's Introduction To The Construction Of Buildings, it will tell you all...

Advantages: Generally amusing and quite witty. Disadvantages: A bit over long and humour begins to grate.

I also worry that this book could be read by young children, rather than the target audience of adults. There isn’t anything too near the knuckle and no swearing, but a lot of the humour is aimed at a more grown up sense of humour ~ for example Barry uses his fame and magic to attract impressionable young girls; maybe not the sort of thing you’ll want your youngster to be reading about!
Also, bear in mind that the book, although very fast paced, is aimed primarily at an American audience and some of the English charm of the characters is lost as a result.
I do recommend Barry Trotter and the Shameless Parody. It is fun, has loads of energy and is a pretty good read. Just don’t take it too seriously and keep your tongue firmly lodged in your cheek when reading and you should...
